Well, of course someone capable was needed who could adjust to different situations, and Hopkins had the speed, power, defense and nice punch selection to back his game plan up. But moving to Kelly's left was the key all night. He took away both the jab and the right hand, and it was good night for Pavlik.

As Hopkins said, he saw on tapes boxers doing it, but only for seconds, and it seems they didn't realize how successful they were. Hopkins saw it and used that all night, and Pavlik, never had to change tactics before as never had to give up his style, simply couldn't adjust to the new situation. Not one bit. Which is why I'd kick Jack Loudmouth Loew ass out as the head trainer. He taught Pavlik how to be effective behind the double jab and create an opening for the right, but that's pretty much it. As Hopkins said, he needs to learn the tricks and slickness of "black fighters", in my words: he needs a trainer who can teach him those tricks.

Blowing out Rubios will bring back the dozens of hardcore fans here stating he's back, and at MW he's unbeatable. Only after his 2nd loss people - and maybe Team Pavlik - will realize, that his jab-based style taken away, he's a VERY limited and vulnerable fighter.

That's the thing about Hopkins, he has a way of just doing something so simple (in conjunction with his crafty generalship and skills) which totally exposes an opponants weaknesses. Against Trinidad having his right hand glued to the side of his head totally negating Trinidad's hook coupled with lateral movement made Felix look extremely limited. Against Winky it was primarily about controlling distance. Devastatingly simple.

According to Steve Bunce, Joe Calzaghe said after his fight with Hopkins that there was something he couldn't explain with Hopkins. He said Hopkins was so difficult to tag, but he didn't know why, he just said it was.

I think Pavlik (and numerous others who have looked bad against Hopkins) realised this too. Whether it was moving left, to nullify Pavlik, or something else, it is a fact that Hopkins does 'something' to fighters that seriously takes them off their game plan.

Luckily for Calzaghe his work rate got him through the fight, and his adaptability. Unfortunately at this stage in his career it appears Pavlik doesn't have that adaptability at present.

He was completely and utterly baffled, after the fight he looked like a young kid that couldn't comprehend what had just happened to him.

i think Pavlik was abit over hyped, Pavlik has only has one game plan basically stick and move away from bhops right hook, and maybe catch Hopkins every now and again, because he did not want to go toe to toe with him,
Bhop basically didnt let him do that, he grabbed him and jumed in front of him and didnt give him an room to find his range and Pavlik could not adapt, bhop is a clever clever fighter thats why hes still competitive at 43,

Pavlik had nothing "wrong" with him when he fought Hopkins. The only thing off that night for him was his opponent. Pavlik did what he normally does, Hopkins was just wildly superior. Hopkins figures people out prefight with his trainers and then executes in the ring. It's that simple. Don't look for a miracle answer.

B-Hop was wrong with Pavlik, that's what it was! Pavlik got schooled, plain & simple!

Hopkins has the best mind in Boxing, despite not being near his physical prime he can find a strategy against anyone.

The only camp that rivals what Hopkins and his team bring to the table is the Mayweather camp.

To begin with, Pavlik never expected to be facing a version of Hopkins that threw punches, in combination, virtually non stop thoughout the fight. Tactically, Team Pavlik went into cardiac arrest right from jump. Once they got over the initial shock, nothing was going to matter anyway, because Hopkins is one of the most skilled offensive fighters the sport has seen in years. When he's getting off like that it spells big problems for anyone - including, one of the best defensive fighters in the sport; Winky Wright. An active Hopkins is murderous.

Pavlik knew that the more he opened up the more he was gonna' get tagged.

B-Hop made it far too hard for him. Funny thing is, Arum was just treating it as a warm up fight to try and get a fight with Calzaghe.

Hopkins put on a masterclass, because he was fighting a blank canvas and he had all the different colours and the knowhow of which brushstrokes to use to apply them effectively.
