Moving up 10 pounds, then ad******g to carrying that weight against one of the craftiest boxers of all-time will not help your cause.

Most of this thread is utterly ridiculous. Pavlik had a 101 degree fever the day before the fight due to a case of bronchitis that was being treated with both oral and injectable antibiotics, and the elbow injury was much worse than Team Pavlik let on. Cameron Dunkin, Jack Leow, and Mike Pavlik all tried to get Kelly to post pone the fight, but KP wouldn't hear of it. The only thing Hopkins "exposed" was that Kelly's balls are bigger than his brain.

If he was sick then that is truly unfortunate. He only has himself to blame for it though.

If he wants to prove it then he must go out and DESTROY everyone he faces from here on out. That will add alot of credibility to his being sick story.

The shitty part here is how dumb fans treat inconsistency as though it were a standard. See Tyson-Douglas for example. As far as I'm concerned if Tyson weren't sick he would have steamrolled Douglas.

No matter what you say, it would not have changed anything.

Keep in mind whay Lewis said= " Styles make fights "
Pavlik beat taylor 2 times, something Hopkins did not do
Taylor beat Hopkins twice, Pavlik did not
Hopkins beat Pavlik, Taylor could not:nut

All of the highlighted. Pavlik's skills (or lack thereof) were exposed by a far superior technician.

The simple answer is that Hopkins represented a stylistic nightmare for Pavlik.

it is ridiculous to think that having bronchitis and having a BAD fever had no affect on the fight...i don't think he would have won but he looked like a shell of himself

It seems like whenever Pavlik looks bad, it's because of him, not the other person. He didn't look very good in the Taylor rematch, looked a lot slower and lethargic, yet the excuse was that he had two broken hands.

i just wander if calzaghe wouldnt make pavlik look average too because he too can move laterally good defense and quick slappy punches. I think the big question is is pavlik as the great champion us fans made him out to be because he is a big puncher

I think Pavlik is still very good and should dominate 160 for the foreseeable future. There aren't too many pedigrees like Hopkins out there who will be able to so thoroughly expose Pavlik's weaknesses.

Pavlik will bounce back from this loss, and I predict, sometime down the road, Hopkins will get even more credit for this victory.

Lets have the shoe on the other foot, rematch with Hopkins at 160...........lets see if Hopkins lets his hands go at that weight. Natural weight for Pavlik which is , at this stage of Hopkins career, a disadvantage for the old man. Pavlik came up, so now Hopkins should go down, it would only be fair.

It is ok to be a fan of a fighter but this BH nuthugging is insane. His best career wins are against fighters that moved up and he had a distinct size advantage plus his skills of course, which are way overhyped IMO. He fights ugly and stinks the joint out.

The only big elite guy he beat is Tarver, well I give the road warrior a honorable mention but I am on the fence with him. All the other elite fighters he faced where he did not enjoy his usuall size advantage ( Jones, Calzaghe) he lost decisively.

At 160 , at this point, he had to pace himself against Taylor and that caused him the win, nothing else. He is not the conditioning wonder he is made out to be.

At 160 a fight with Pavlik would be a lot more competitive IMO, he still might edge it out but it ain't going to be easy. Pavlik has the chance to make Hopkins fight three minutes a round and we all saw what happens (Calzaghe) when old Bhops cannot dictate the pace.
