What titles do you rate and what ones do you regard as meaningless?

It's all about opposition.

 

Area Titles-are major part of small hall boxing and give fighters a sense of pride, Masters titles for me aren't really anything other then a main event title for small halls. Without Area titles shows fold and fighters lose interest.

English Title- is a good progression title...sort of like a domestic youth title.

Commonwealth- has been ruined by the standard of opponents but it's still an honor for any fighter to hold a belt which some of the great fighters we have had held. Of recent times it's been devalued by the mass of poor fighters been given shots.

British-Greatest Title in the world and fighters have died fighting for that title. It means the world to each fighter who fights for it and it's produced some of the greatest fights we've ever seen. It's just a special title.

Intercontinental Titles-Safety routes for promoters to guide there champion to a world title shot without facing a stern test.

European-Gives you a big ranking with the world titles and it brings ££££ with it and it's a major stepping stone to world titles and again an honor for any fighter to be champion of there continent.

World Titles-The Champion makes the title in this day an age. WBC will always be the special title imo.

 

Dare I say it, but no titles are really worth all that much these days.

Even the British and European rarely have the best respective fighters holding them..... plus more fighters get the chance to fight for them with people vacating.

This ''let's wait until it's bigger'' bollocks is a big cause of this. Good quality domestic fights don't happen because promoters want to wait ''until both have titles'' - load of shite.

I'd still say the proper route is....

WBC/IBF

The rest can go whistle, especially the Commonwealth and interalphabetty titles.

British Title is a bit over-rated IMO, its just a stepping stone, nothing more, nothing less.

Fighters drop it like a hot potato once a European or World title fight is in sight.

Just a few of the BRITISH world champions from the last 20 years who dont have a BRITISH title for keeps.

The only fighters who rate the British title are the fighters who arent good enough for European or World level.

I don't think it's right that that's the case, however.

I think Lewis has one outright, from when it used to be 3 rather than 4 title fights.... but you can add Hamed, Bruno and Khan to your list.

 

i disagree very strongly with this often stated opinion that the WBC is better than the others. i know its just an opinion but after their disgraceful behaviour with RJJ and rocchigiani, Jose Suileman - utter dickhead, and that shambles the diamond belt bollocks. All the "world governing bodies" are equally ridiculous and have numerous controversies in their histories. none serve boxing suitably and have their own agendas always

my favourites are the british belt - i have huge respect for a fighter who can win this outright, the Ring belt is also pretty prestigious - you can only get this if you beat The Man, or someone rightly ranked highly.
i would have said european but after Mad Matt Hatton got to fight for the title... im not so sure

 

Can't believe I forgot about them 2, also it looks like Frank Warrens Olympians will be dodging the British Title.

Frank Warren cant see the British Title as that important because he has gone down the same path with Hatton, Calzaghe and Khan.

 

Lewis & Witter both have the belt 'for keeps'.
Woods often refers to his disappointment that he was unable to defend and win the Lonsdale outright.
Hatton has often referred ro his pride in winning the British title.
However it goes without saying that world titles are more sought after than domestic titles.
