I agree Pryor has become overrated. He may have been a bit much for Mancini i think but it would have been nice to see it pan out.

Would have cleared up a lot of questions most fight fans still have about both fighters, in my opinion.

To be honest i think Pryor answered a lot of questions in the two Arguello fights. Even tho i considered him to have become a bit overrated he certainly showed he was one helluva fighter in that brace of fights.

He is a hell of a fighter, I don't disagree with that. But it would have been nice to see him against another young, primed, similar sized fighter who could take it and give it like Mancini could. Pryor, in my opinion, really plucked the lowest hanging fruit several times out in his career.

Aaron Pryor first victory over Alexis Arguello will always have a *
because of the blue bottle just like Juan Marquez victory over
Pacquiao in their fourth fight with his amazing body transformation
and the use of trainer caught for cheating.

It was a very weak division during his tenure for sure Russell. I can see where you are coming from. Cervantes was old and had huge mileage behind him and a couple of defenses were against guys an old Cervantes had already beaten. Pryor burnt out fast just when much bigger fights loomed. Just when he should have been soaring with big fights beckoning he was ruining himself.

well maybe not. but the thought was he would fight Pryor, and Mancini always said he wishes he could have done to Alexis what Pryor did. The big fight would have been Pryor,,, and in someways.. crazy as it sounds I see Mancini being tough for Pryor.. Maybe.. A little too small.

It's happened to a ton of fighters, really being past your best and never having the chance to show off your full range because there were no other primed, young talents around exactly when Pryor would have shown most, and or there were those talents and the fights simply didn't end up being made. Same end result, never being able to shine.

True. Pryor has mostly himself to blame tho (certainly for the soft career finish) as if he stayed drug free and committed the bigger fights were right there from memory. He had the world at his feet when he beat Arguello.

I agree the fight would be life and death 8-10 rds but I think Pryor wins it.......Mancini thought he would match up well with him because of Pryors loose defense and the fact that his hands were chest high and his chin was always up he thought he could land his hooks which were pretty heavy especially his left

Mancini was a tough guy & proved it in a losing effort to the prime Great master Alex Arguello, Ray was in condition and an attrition guy who could hurt you. Mancini had heart but the tough fights & 15 rd wars take there toll as they did with another war machine Barry McGuigin & there comes a day when you fizzle out. This fight was a good win for Ray
