There's no probably about it: Tyson has CERTAINLY lost a lot of speed, and has CERTAINLY lost a lot of power. How else was Danny Williams able to beat him to the punch and Kevin "Chinny Coloussus" McBride able to absorb his heaviest shots? Tyson is shot like a white deer.
Which fights could he safely be put in? Remember, Tyson had world class trainers for his last two losses. Everyone was talking about how he looked in great shape. I doubt that nearly 3 years of bad living have made Tyson any better. What are the chances of finding a safer stiff that Kevin McBride? Remember, McBride's chin was already known to be terrible; he'd never shown any defensive or offensive ability; the man had been dropped and stopped by Axel Schulz of all people. The division is MUCH better than it was in 2004 or 2005. Even the top 40 guys like Sinan Samil Sam, Larry Donald and Oleg Platov would stop Tyson, no matter what shape he gets himself into.
He could probably beat Golota again because of his style, Golota I knows ranked in the top 30, plus he's still a name. If it was up to me I would start him off slow by fighting guys like Juluis Long, who has a glass chin, then I would jump to Kendrick Releford, it would be a slow progression until I fought Tyson was ready to challenge a top 20 guy without imploding during the fight. Tyson needs to have drive and confidence, this is something that can be built up over time, but I doubt Tyson and his people will do it this way.
His first year against bums might be OK, but he would be KO'd in the first round against and Top 10 heavyweight. Even if they are all ****. Has to find his money another way, unfortunately.
It's more likely that George Foreman comes out of retirement at 57 yrs old and wins a trinket than Mike having any kind of success in a comeback. The only reason he would come back is for money. If he needs money he should go to the WWE; he would make lots of money, become the WWE heavyweight champ, and he wouldn't have to get knocked out by scrubs in the process.
although i don't share the same optimism that he's gonna make a dedicated comeback, i'm confident --even now with one camp and even if he's still depressed and dabbling in prescritption/non prescription drugs---he can beat guys like mollo, chambers, krasniqui, meehan, and others in the top 50. even if he's only capable of a few early rounds of agreesion and firepower there's more than a few whom can't withstand that. with one camp in the past 5 yearshe demolished ettiene and was blowing out williams before suffering a knee injury requiring surgery. even with additional age (upper 30's and 40 aint that big a difference) and more rust, he can still give plenty of b to b- guys in this division more than they can handle. as i said in a different post, mcbride even tho very limited talent wise was the wrong matchup for coming off an injury and inactivity at tyson's age. whatever you wanna say about mcbride he did what he had to do to frustrate tyson smothering, leaning and wearing down, and clubbing tyson in the clinches. mcbride also ate some good shots and at the very least showed some toughness and determinatiion at least in that fight.
No matter what Tyson does for preparation . . . it's gonna be a very tall order for him to make a serious comeback and become a treat to the TOP 5 fighters of the present. The guy is metally wrecked . . . and it's beyond repair.
He is a wreck of a man let alone a fighter he wouldnt even beat some super middleweights at this rate let alone any heavys, he should be always be rememberd for the good times though not the mcbride loss or the williams loss
The joke of it is his so called fans want him to fight on & make a fool of himself & get beaten up more.
i hear what you're saying. i tend to agree but i stand by what i posted about being capable of beating top 50 guys. btw, nothing affects what he did in the past, the guy needs some money and he's not suffered much punishment (in the ring) so if wants to fight, why not?
ok say tyson makes a comeback he wont be able to be much of a capable threat to heavy weight boxers such as the klitscho brothers he would be placed on his arse after the first real shot on the chin by anyfighter , when fighters get old n lost there spark they feal lost , tyson is one of the worse cases as he is just looking for punishment n a 40 year old man like tyson should be carefull cos his recovery rate will be terrible at that age!
In btalk Tyson says he just wants to fight Holyfield for third time! So he is not serious about his comeback! I think he could motivate himself for holyfield and btw mike has been sober for like 3 months? So maybe he has set himself a new goals! Any way I don't think fighting Holyfield in your first comeback fight is great idea I would suggest to fight two bums before taking on Holyfield! I think the 3rd Holyfield fight would be huge! And maybe would put boxing back front pages!
