What about that Nipper Daly? Started at 9 and was beating good boxers by the age of 15. Shame he never won a world title. The thread on here a few weeks ago was brillant.
His Grandson has a book coming out in the New Year. I'll def, be getting a copy. It'd make a hell of a film, even for non-boxing fans:good
That prime era of the fighting booths, with guys like Wilde is so fascinating and would make a great movie. Imagine going to a carnival or a fair and then seeing some of greatest fighters in the world there, going at it and people fancing themselfs and taking them on from the crowd.
Jason Booth are you serious? Might as well title it 'Life of a Chav (plus boxing)'. Hardly captivating stuff there. Jimmy Wilde would be a fantastic one because there was something freakish about him. Getting to the core of how he became the fighter he was would be interesting in itself.
**** all these black and White fighters "They get enough credit", we need movies about. John Conteh, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Michael Watson..."Them three could star in one film" Frank Bruno, aswell would be a great and emotional film. The 90's was a great era, and we need to remember it.
The boffs used to carry out all sorts of weird experiments on Jimmy in an attempt to discover where his freakish power came from , the film i can see in my mind eye is one starting off with him and his sister stealing coal off the stationed trains up the valleys then moving on to where he first met his future wife Liz Bethan's father ( miner and mountain fighter of note) and him teaching a young Jimmy the basics of boxing , the film would then move on to his Skerrett booth days ending that chapter with him knocking eight men out in one afternoon , his first meeting with Driscoll ,his first title fight in the UK and his two tours of America ending with him being sparked by Villa . the scope for such a film is very wide and if done correctly would be a brilliant film not only for the boxing fan but for people in general imo , his life was a well lived , he died a sad death in a hospital here in Cardiff .
They were still doing just that in Australia up until recent times i think . Booths were a massive attraction back in the day as you know Slip .
