Totally agree with you there. Eubank's book was very entertaining and it would be great on the big screen.
It's a good triumph over adversity story that could tug at the heartstrings. Jason was boxing for England and winning national titles as an amateur, and then onto British, European and World (well, IBO) titles, before being torn apart by his sister's suicide, and developing a massive drink addiction (including fighting while drunk) and drug problems, before coming back and getting a world title shot with Molitor, putting on a brave performance against an opponent who had also beat his brother (who would make a pretty awesome supporting character and contrast to Jason). Plenty of the other suggestions are better, but I think Booth's story translates well to the screen. Maybe more of an Inside Sport piece than a feature film though now I think about it :good
:nono :nono :nono He was never involved with the racist rhetoric of the party. He left when the BUF adopted the racist line and actually stood against them later in his career.
That story isn't entirely accurate. Lewis also ran for local election for Mosley's New Party in Whitechapel.
A film about Daniel Mendoza would be brilliant. There's a lot of good suggestions on here. Regarding McGuigan- he didn't grow up in the sectarian hotbed that everyone thinks he did and he's not a UK fighter so for the purposes of the thread he doesn't qualify
paul ingle from scarborough, something just tells me it would be a british classic, kind of a boxing kez.
Nigel Benn and how mcclellan has effected him, now turning to god etc Rogan? Munroe, ffighting in japan for world title back on the bins the next week!!
Jem Mace would make a good candidate. Emerged from the village green prizefights of rural Britain to become a top contender. Overcame a 70lb weight diffarential to win the British Heavyweight title. Came to dominate the division at a time when the authourities were finaly serious/sucessful about stamping out prizefighting in the UK. Organized armies of prizefighters to take on the organized criminal gangs who targeted prizefights en mass. Moved to America to unify the British and American titles to become the fisrst world champion, and survived a subsequent atempt on his life at a prize fight. Finaly promoted gloved boxing which led to the legalization of the sport.
