What opinions do you have about either fighters, trainers, fights or anything else in the sport that you get **** for from other fans and barley anyone seems to agree with you. For me it's my opinion that Judah should have been given a full 10 count in the Tzyu fight. It was only the second round, this was not a fighter that had taken a prolonged beating. I'm not saying that Judah would have won but in a fight of that magnitude he deserved a 10 count and a chance to continue especially from a ref that let Fernando Vargas come withing 1 more jab of getting killed by Trinidad.
Can I discuss that with you a bit? From what the announcers said, it was the rule that if Judah fell down again after getting up it HAD to be ruled a TKO. I don't believe the ref had any real choice in the matter. Anyway, mine is that I don't get all freaked out when heavyweights get knocked down and knocked out. People make it a huge deal how often people get knocked down (Wlad and Haye being the most popular at the moment), and I just think "These are big men punching hard!"
I know what you are talking about but the announcers were wrong there is no such rule. Jay Nady himself even said it that there is no such rule that it is always at the ref's discretion whether or not to stop a fight.
That champions should not be given the benefit of the doubt in close fights or rounds. Once the first bell has gone it should be just two guys fighting with no advantage given to either man. The champion has the advantage of keeping the title in the event of a draw and that should be the only advantage he gets.
I've always been of the belief that Zab Judah cost himself that fight by not taking an 8 count and by falling all over the place. I digress either way. Unpopular boxing opinion: 147 is a very weak class right now.
I really agree with you here and think that anyone that thinks otherwise is a complete idiot. Luckily more people are starting to come around.
How many times do you get to fall over from one punch? I think I've been through this with someone before - Count to ten and get to where Zab gets up - Does he make it?
Well there is no rule as to how many times you can fall from one punch just that you have to be ready to fight again at 10 (20 if you get knocked out of the ring). Honestly I think that Judah would have probably been Ko'd eventually anyway but I think at that point he would have been able to fight on and every fighter deserves at least the chance.
The big money fights at WW have me excited..but the division is very thin and weak past the top 4. Remove Cotto and Mosley and this is a very questionable division. Carlos Quintana, Zab Judah, Kermit Cintron and Paul Williams are all moving on to higher weights. Clottey is a good fighter but not exactly a stylistic thrill and while Berto is exciting to watch, he's coming off his worst performance yet. Outside of that what is there?
