What venue should PBF-Pac be held in?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by LordSharpshire, Nov 24, 2009.

  1. Manny has fought @ the MGM Grand fives times based on a quick look. Floyd has fought there three times. Maybe they fought there more than that but I didn't look at their Boxrec records or anything. Anyways, my point is this: The MGM is small. Really small. It only seats a little over 17,000 which is not nearly enough for a fight of this magnitude. So, what options do we have?

Azteca Stadium in Mexico City holds 105,000. Wembley Stadium holds around 90,000. Cowboys Stadium has a capacity of around 111,000 and that includes standing positions.

What I'm curious about though, is whether the powers-that-be running the show for Pac-PBF even care if they have the fight anywhere other than the MGM Grand? Is 17,000 enough for them? If that ends up being the case, it's a real shame.

Dallas Stadium would be great for the simple fact that they have those GIANT high-def t.v.'s. And, the stadium is brand new. The only problem I see with holding it at Dallas Stadium are the parking costs and Jerry Jones' greed. If he gets involved in the discussions, it wouldn't surprise me if he asked for too much revenue from the fight.

I'm not sure how much it would cost and/or how difficult it would be to put huge television screens in Wembly Stadium or Azteca stadium or any other similar stadium.

Anyways, if you had your choice, where would you like to see this event held?

Cowboys Stadium no doubt...I would have liked Yankee Stadium, but the risk of rain would b pretty high

I think normally they just care about the PPV sales more than the gate. For bigger fights they just raise the ticket prices. Boxing is big in vegas, I doubt they will have it in texas or somewhere else. They could have it at the staples center... that is what slightly bigger, 20k something seats or in the UK somewhere but following tradition it will probably be in Vegas and both Pac and PBF seem to like it there.

They will still make their money, if the cheapest tickets for PBF-JMM were $150, they can probably do cheapest tickets at 250-300 and still sell out.

  5. I don't think that's feasible.

  6. Not sure how many Yankees stadium seats. I know that Giants Stadium in Rutherford, N.J. seats upwards of 85,000.

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the college football stadiums in L.A. were brought up though. Where UCLA and USC play; can't remember the names.

the fight will be at the MGM grand but the prices will be high. the demand for this fight is going to be high, so the organisers can charge whatever price they want for a ticket.

the cheapes tickets could be going for about $500, and it still will be packed out.

on the black market ticket prices will go in to the thousands.

Sounds cool do you have a link on this?

  11. Yeah, but why settle? I mean, a huge stadium would sell out, I have no doubts about that. I just wouldn't understand the mind state of settling on a 17,000/person capacity arena when it could be so much better/bigger if they wanted it to be. If they held it in a really big venue, that would increase PPV sales IMHO. It would get talked up more because it was being held in such a big venue and people would respond to that by buying the PPV I think. Anyways, I'm babbling. I just see a lot of opportunity here and I just don't think it should be squandered because of certain people's 'comfort zones'.

if it were a bigger stadium that fits 85k plus, wouldn't that mean the ppv count will b lower and have lesser chances of breaking the ppv record?

  13. No ****? That's a ballsy proposition.

    Duh Giants Stadium !!

  15. No way man. I don't see it like that at all. If anything, having it in a bigger venue will generate MORE media over the fight because it will be the two best fighters in the world fighting in such a large venue. It would generate SO much talk. The PPV record is getting smashed for this fight regardless of where it's held.
