Tyson's defense is so underrated it's silly. Defensively, maybe the best ever the HW division has seen.

Mike had talents that were materialized through lots of hard work. He was a physical freak that had lots of intangibles. He was mentally fragile though; which is what ended up being his downfall.

you said you don't become a great fighter by beating the likes of Bruno and botha, but isn't that what Lennox did? Seeing as Lewis hav and Tyson have very similar resumes. The only 2 outstanding names on Lewis resume are Vitali and Holyfield

Foremans fan boys tend to ignore this, they claim Tyson ducked Foreman, even though numerous offers were made to him which he rejected, claiming he was scared of Don King

but they simply cant answer why Foreman
missed out guys like Lewis, Bowe and Holmes..

Foreman was calling out Tyson even when he was in prison, while pretending Larry Holmes didn't even exist

    Bull****.

Holmes went on to give prime Ray Mercer a boxing lesson and fought at the top level for many years after Tyson knocked him out. Yes, knocked him OUT. The only man ever to do so. How about you give him some credit? Tyson was underrated, not overrated. He is better than the majority of boxing fans make him out to be.

Tyson was a clean cut, respectable, well disciplined human before Don King got hold of him??

Remind me again how did Tyson get started in boxing?? Didn't he meet Bobby Stewart in someplace??

What was it that he did to Teddy Atlas's niece when he'd been spoilt and pampered for so long and given a new life??

holmes was out of shape, hadnt fought in years and took it without a warm up against a prime tyson, the holmes that fought holyfield and mercer was beter, mercer would have beaten tyson, tyson would have got disheartened when he didnt roll over and he couldnt ko him with one punch similar to what holyfield did

Bull****, Tyson "didn't roll over and give up" against :

    Ruddock x2

Out of shape, barely trained Tyson to 10rds of punishment against Douglas
and even got up, never giving up

Post prison took a good beating for 11rds in a competitive fight vs Holyfield

Faded Tyson was getting schooled by Botha of all people. You could see the frustration but he didn't give in and koed Botha.

Washed up and badly faded Tyson took 8rds of punishment from Lennox Lewis. Tyson had to be pushed by Lewis for him to go down.

well he should be professional and not go in unprepared, its all to easy an excuse, douglas made a blue print to beat tyson as did holyfield, lewis anihilated him,and he should have been disqualified before he knocked botha out

Why should Tyson have been DQd against Botha? both men were fighting equally dirty?

Rewatch the fight,Tyson got away with murder all through his career, referees where terrified to punish him

He was deducted points against Holyfield and Botha

He was warned against using elbows vs Spinks

So much ridiculousness in this thread! Mike Tyson was a phenomenon. He was the Maradona of boxing. A flawed yet supremely genetically endowed kid who destroyed all in his path, showing great head movement, the fastest hand speed in the division and probably the most powerful puncher ever seen, before or since in the whole of boxing. Spinks was tipped by many great heavyweights of the past including Ali to win, and Tyson utterly destroyed him.

Nothing could've beaten him from any era in his prime, and as a 29 year old who grew up hearing all about Tyson, I can tell you clueless kids here that the whole world were almost unanimous in that view. Tyson was simply the most impressive athlete on the planet for the few years he was at his best.

If not for the tragedies he suffered, we can only imagine how long he would have dominated the division.

the way he destroyed world champions like bone crusher smith trevor berbick and an old out of shape holmes was phenomenal,or light heavyweight spinks even, not to mention frank bruno.
a massive deal was made of how good ruddock really was and thats why he gave tyson a good fight, well if tyson is he biggest puncher ever why did tyson nail him flush numerous times and not ko him legitimately yet lewis nearly decapitated him in under 2 rounds ?
