He was a beast when he was young. I really liked how he dismntled Terron Millet but I think his highest point of career was when Buddy Mcgirt made him a boxer and he won the WBC belt and defended it twice with KO's of Dorin and Leija
For me his first fight with Ivan Robinson. What a performance by Mighty Ivan and Gatti still managed to nearly knock him down in the last round. Great fight, showing both fighters will and skill.
Perhaps its better to say that he is remembered for getting up even when he could not. I will say that the Robinson fights of course standout. I will alow say that his trilogy with Micky Ward also deserves recognition.
His most defining moment in my eyes is when he knowingly CHEATED the scales in order to gain a 19 lbs weight advantage over C level ex-titlet Joey Gamage in a desperate attempt to revive a sub-par career. Careful now, I was banned for calling him out a few months ago. The cheating, talentless ******* deserves no acclaim. "Ohhhhh he was a warrior". I get it I get it. So all you have to do is stand up and bleed and you capture the hearts of MILLIONS? Give me a ****ing break.
Theres something that makes a real fighter special, he doesnt have the skills of a Floyd Mayweather or a particularily good chin but you know what your gonna get, excitement. Hes gonna be in a battle with the other guy until one of them gets knocked out for your entertainment, you should appreciate that. I respect guys who can win technically, they are superior boxers but I know who I'd rather watch to get the blood pumping. Gatti was one of those special fighters.
