What was cooler... the visual you got onscreen when Ray Charles was singing "America The Beautiful" in the ring, with Sugar Ray Leonard loosening up in the background, before the Duran rematch OR the sight of Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti instinctively hugging each other in the center of the ring BEFORE their thirtieth (the tenth round of their third fight) and final round against each other? ICE
Hmmm,I didn't see SRL-Duran II live so it doesn't have the same effect, but I can say that Ward-Gatti III had a feeling for me in that tenth round where I told myself, Enjoy this while you can, because fights and fighters like this don't come along very often. The crowd and Emmanuel Steward giving them a rousing standing ovation after Round 4 was an awesome moment as well.
I loved BOTH. The one with Ray...it was real cool because the way it unfolded, with the song America The Beautiful, it was like an inspirational music video
When I saw Ray Charles singing, and his namesake, Ray Charles Leonard in the backround looking inspired as hell.I got the goosebumps because I was a Duran fan, and I felt at the moment all was lost for the great Roberto. And look what happened!
I see good sportsmanship all the time. I don't see Ray Charles sing much. In fact I didn't even see that performance, my copy of the fight doesn't start that early.
Exactly...man, when that scene played out. it was like you could feel something special. It was like it was too awesome of a scene for Ray to ever lose after that. It was like that was the push that got the inspirational ball rolling that night
