Agreed. Some fights with guys like Berbick, Weaver, and Coetzee, etc would have been interesting to see how he'd fair against that bunch. He might have beaten all of them, and then again he might have lost to every single one. I suspect that the results would have been in the middle with him winning some and losing some. But if given the choice, I'd rather see guys leave boxing with their health and lives in tact. It breaks my heart to see these guys end up like Quarry, Ali, Tate, Young, Prior, etc.. C00ney went on to having a nice family and a long lasting marriage.. He's stayed in good physical and financial health.. For a while he even collaborated with Larry Holmes to help out retired fighters who were down on their luck.. Of course he's had some problems with drugs and alcohol but seems to have gotten past that.

I agree it's cool his post boxing life has been stable.

He took a beating against Michael Spinks but other than that he never really took a bad beating.

George got him out of their pretty fast.

****ey seemed pretty intelligent and it's good he handled his money well.

Like Leonard and a few others, he never let Don King control his career.

I can't think of one fighter who signed long term with King that ended up with much $$$.

Yes, he was hyped up that's for sure. Being white AND having dynamite power really gained him some traction and he was matched in a way that lent toward a great highlight reel.

Money didn't talk to Holmes, it grabbed him by the throat, got up in his face and SCREAMED at him. He also knew Gerry was unproven against higher calibre fighters and would have liked his chances immensely.

    Absolutely.

    Agreed.

Spot on. His chance of beating Weaver were miles better than against Holmes. Not to say he was a lay down misere but he would have had a live shot that's for sure.

Dino Denis. Jab based one armed bandit approach leadin up to the flattening hook to the jaw. Denis was the same height as Foreman, but Gerry dwarfed him. He badly needed rematchs with Young and Eddie Lopez to cement his skills and stamina.
