I felt terrible when Hagler lost to Leonard. I know Hagler had a couple losses before then, but he had been on a dominate streak forever and I didn't think he could be beaten by a MW Leonard. I was a young teen and Hagler was my favorite fighter - my stomach was in knots watching it because I knew it was going to be close and he wasn't able to KO him like most people thought.

Years ago my favorite was Danny "Little Red" Lopez. He lost to Bobby Chacon before I became a big fan of his, but when he was champ at 126 there was a period when he seemed damned near invincible. Danny was one of those "knock him down, he'll get up and kill ya" kind of fighters, so when one Salvador Sanchez looked like he was winning the fight I wasn't to concerned. I just kept waiting for Lopez to step on the gas and knock this youngster out. Of course it never happened. When Danny lost the rematch, I was sick inside. Of course in retrospect it's almost a point of pride to be able to say it took some one as good as Sanchez to take Danny's title.

I was absolutely shocked when Duran quit against Leonard. I knew he was frusturated but never in my wildest dreams did I think he would pull out of the fight.

Blame SRL for that debacle. He purposely went after a rematch with Duran because he knew he had blown up to over 220 lbs. Duran had to go through hell to make weight. Leonard made things worse by acting like a pure jackass in there; clowning and showboating. Duran was cramping up, was frustrated, and assumed that Leonard would do the honorable thing and participate in an immediate rubber match. With all of this going through his head, Duran simply quit.

I remember watching my favorite all time "Tito Trinidad" get his ass whopped by Hopkins... that was the worse day in boxing for me so far.

Ok Mr. smartass, Duran was a giving man. He had just won the biggest fight of his life, and he decided to do a little celebrating with his friends. It got a little out of hand, that's all. Leonard, of course, pounced on the opportunity to take advantage of a good man who's giving nature resulted in him ballooning in weight.
