The whole thing sucks. I missed Pryor's career and this has really kept me over the years from wanting to go through too many of his fights. It's pretty damned obvious something shady went down, and to pull it on a great sportsman like Arguello... ugh.

Well if it's any consolation, the rematch was probably clean.

Watch the documentary "Assault in the Ring". Toward the end, Luis Resto explains that Panama Lewis put a substance in his water bottle that "opened my lungs, and gave me extra energy". Panama probably used that for many of his fighters.

Yea definitely. He was crushing asthma pills, loading gloves.. Panama was/is a dirty sonofabitch..

But yea definitely something for opening the lungs.. Isn't that the most popular form of asthma pills or medication that would be able to mix with water and be effective..

clenbuterol, it will open up your lungs to give you that extra wind.

Could not have been albuterol since it mainly comes in liquid form and not pills and i believe it was not widely used back then.

Clenbuterol comes is tabs of 20mcg's and that is what i'm guessing he took.

Oh and i strongly believe his hands were loaded. But i can't prove it and neither can any of us on here, maybe it will leak out later.

It was originally aired and broadcast on HBO . Great film I'm sure you can find it somewhere. Maybe try HBO Go if you have it.

The HBO cameras caught Panama asking for the black bottle as early as the second round. Pryor was drinking a mix of crushed asthma pills throughout the fight.

Those I believe are the rounds that HBO has footage of Panama feeding Pryor from that bottle.
There were likely more rounds that were not caught on tape.

......remember, nobody had a clue this was going on, and so its not like the HBO cameras were focused on what the fighters were drinking.

Arguello was massacred in the 14th round by Pryor, not to mention Arguello was mustering every last ounce of himself to stay in the fight against a fighter that for all intents and purposes was being revived time and again by those crushed asthma pills.

......and Pryor boxed well off his toes as well during the mid to late rounds, could he have done that and be as sharp as he had to be without an endless foundation of oxygen those asthma pills provided him?
    I vehemently say no!

Forget about what happened in the rematch just months later, Arguello had been broken down in that first fight, and was not the same fighter.
