Probably a prime Kessler, when he fought RJJ and Hopkuns they were past it

    ?

There is a top tier of Kessler and Hopkins. Then a big drop off. Don't know how many of his wins I would call "big."

    Hopkins
    Kessler
    Lacy
    Eubank

Though the Hopkins win wasn't as clear as the others, Joe became the man at his second weight by a victory over a still very good Hopkins, who beat the man that dethroned Roy Jones.

Hopkins is still competing at a high level, and is a much better fighter than Kessler.. Though the Kessler victory is probably in the top 5 greatest SMW wins...

Lacy turned out to be more hype than great fighter, but credit has to be given to Joe for taking the fight and making the unknown known. Lacy was at his best and undefeated when Joe put on a performance that rivals the dominance of Jones over Toney.

Eubank would be an obvious 4th, who was one of the best SMW of all time, but clearly past his very best, though he would go on to nearly win a CW title, before calling it a career.

All in all, Joe has a solid resume, that gets a little underrated by some..

I think he is a top 100 ATG.

Kessler is not all time great.:nono

Hopkins though more boring, has a far better skill set, and resume.

Kessler and it really isn't close.

Hopkins is a bigger name on the resume - and so is Jones, and probably Eubank too - but in terms of the actual quality of the win Kessler blows those away. He was prime; they weren't. The fact that all three are greater all-time doesn't eclipse that fact, and Kessler while not quite in their league is good enough to make up the deficit by having been vastly closer to his peak than any of them.

...and don't even bring up Lacy. That is Joe's signature win, but miles from his best. It probably doesn't even deserve to rate above Reid or Veit, if you look past it being a domination of an internationally hyped undefeated favorite.

Nonetheless, which of his wins would you describe as "big wins," which is what I was responding to.

Obviously he had many that would be "big wins" for a club fighter. But we're talking about the GOAT at a single division. Which of his victories are "big wins?"

    That's ******ed.

I'm a big Kessler fan. He's great for this era. But Hopkins is a true ATG.

There is a gap between them. And that gap is large.

Between Hopkins all time and Kessler all time, yes. Very large gap.

Between the Calzaghe victory over that version of Hopkins and the Calzaghe victory over that version of Kessler, there is a much smaller gap and it's the victory over Kessler that rates higher.

Is it beating the 2 greatest American boxers in history back 2 back while past his best?????
    Hmmm
Or beating a past his best eubank??

I think the most talented and greatest fighter he fought is eubank..
I know he wasn't prime...but eubank was a class above Roy (where's my spinage) Jones or Hopkins...
Even if they are the 2greatest American fighters ever
