What Was Lennox Lewis Greatest Fight?

Hmm... I think Rahman II was very impressive, and pre-Steward, Ruddock. Of course, there are others, like Grant.

 

I liked the one where he made Oliver McCall cry.

I always respected the way Lewis took out Ruddock.I know he had those two wars with Tyson the previous year , but Lennox taking him out in 2 .. that's impressive.

 

Best overall performance was Rahman 2, best technical performance was Tua and best offensive performance was Golata.

As some others have said, his greatest fight was Hasim Rahman 2, in my opinion as well.

 

Lennox's greatest win was his last fight ... tearing the side of a prime Vitali Klitschko's face off and stopping him in just six rounds.

No one else came close to doing what Lewis did to that Hall of Famer.

No other Hall of Fame heavyweight champion ended their career with a stoppage win over another Hall of Fame heavyweight champion.

Only Lennox Lewis.

Nobody else.

Lennox Lewis ended his amateur career with a stoppage win over a future Hall of Fame heavyweight champion (Bowe) and ended his pro career doing the same thing (against Klitschko). And Lennox beat every man who stepped in the ring with him in between those two fights.

Truly amazing. But his last win was the greatest.

Much as I hate to say it, his win against Vitali was both his best win and most impressive performance. He should have lost that fight, was losing that fight, but instead of folding he dug deep and managed to get the W against a bigger, younger opponent who was also a H2H monster.

 

I do not see it that way at all.
The cut was not predictable & a freak happenstance, seemingly the only time it happened in Vitali's loooong fighting career, amateur professional & kickboxing.
And Lewis was behind by 2 rounds.
Even though he started to come back towards the end, it was in no way decisive, they both looked tired, but Lewis even more gassed-& likely would be less so if he was better trained & did not come in at his heaviest ever weight.

I am high on Vitali as a H2H monster, recently arguing at length to that effect a bunch of times.
But if not in great shape, past his peak, & only a highly unusual fluke got him the win, even if Vitali was then peak, it cannot compare to when he was better overall, & the result would seemingly inevitably flow from great ability, strategy & focus.

I agree with Ruddock or Rahman 2 as his pinnacle.

 

Definitely Rahman 2. After being decisively knocked out in the first fight Lewis came back and outclassed Rahman turning the trick on him. Impressive win and form that night.

Ruddock had been through 2 wars with Tyson already so it’s a notch below even though the result was shocking and impressive at the time.
Same goes for Golota bout he was in two wars with Bowe beforehand and had the added hindrance of receiving an illegal lidocaine injection in the knee before the bout. An injection that Golota’s handlers sued the Doctor for an adverse reaction, a seizure, and settled out of court to the tune of seven figures.
The Vitali fight Lewis showed grit and resolve but his form was sloppy and his stamina was poor. The cut was kind of a freak cut too. The way he was in range to Vitali’s arm punches all night he was fortunate it wasn’t Wlad in their Lewis would have been gone in 2 rounds.
His first fight with Holyfield gets overlooked due to the dubious draw result but Lewis was in great form that night as well, despite the high trunks.
