What was more impressive? Calzague winning, or the way Hopkins fought at age 43?

Ok yeah we I understand Calzague has just won the biggest fight of his carrer .. he barely beat Hopkis a 43 year old guy who has been fighting realy hard opponents for the last several years, so yeah all praise to Calzague, way to go.

    back to the question.

I honestly believe Hopkins was more impressive. For a 43 year old to perform like that and knock the man down in the very first round is just too impressive to be ignored or denied unless you're a hater. Most people were picking Hopkins to be dropped either early or late, even KO'd, the opposite NEARLY happened and if you noticed better it was Hopkins hurting Calzaghe when he lands with a good shot or stunning him. Hopkins, the 43 year old, wasn't stunned nor hurt once.

Add another one to Hopkins from me.

Was just looking for a thread where I could add a "Despite Joe winning, Hops was still more impressive, imo"... And then I find this! :D

I reject the insinuation. Neither has anything to be ashamed of, and regardless of Hops age, Calzaghe was phenomenal.

    Don't rain on him.

I feel Hopkins did very little in the entire fight and it's probably incorrect to credit him from giving a good performance. He gave a typical one, in that he worked so ineffectively that his opponent was almost as ineffective as he was. Bar the first round, Hopkins did very little the entire fight. Spent rounds on the backfoot, and getting in the occasional right hand, but was out worked for the majority.

I would say Calzaghe's win was more impressive on the basis that Hopkisn did very little, and that Joe answered his critics...again.

Hopkins, the man fought like a true legend at the age of 43, he gave us a tough competitive fight against one of the best in the world, he just came up a little short tonite, Amsterdam was wrong, Calzaghe didnt dominate anything tonite, but he did get the close win and thats all that matters.

Still you have to understand that Calzague's biggest win, biggest fight of his carrer comes against a 43 year old man, and the fight was actually close.

and for the last years, Calzague has not been fighting the type of opposition that Hopkins has been fighting, so not only look at age being 43 while most 38 39 year old are lookin like ****, but also look at quality of oponents in their last fights.

as hopkins said... whit time the fans will be the judges. and its true.

hopkins fought an ugly, head-butting, holding fight. calzaghe would of ko'd the old bigot if b-bop didn't play it up on the phantom low blow, and take a 5-minute break. he frigging ran all night

This fight is a greater credit to Hopkins, by far.

Both were impressive, and I wouldn't have liked it any other way. Calzaghe winning would've received no credit if Hopkins came out and was totally outclassed, and Hopkins performed well enough against a top fighter to prove both that he's no usual 43 year old boxer and that he did deserve the recognition at LHW he got from beating Tarver and Wright.

Ironically, because normally no fighter looks good facing either Hopkins or Calzaghe, there were times in which both men were made to look worse than they really are. These guys are the two of the best ring generals in boxing.
