Beating Trinidad in the ring but losing it the official decision. Anyone who saw that fight watched Oscar easily beat Trinidad.
Shutting up Vargas' roided mouth. I would have been taking Tito to school, but we all know that story.
Not knocking his 1992 olympic gold medal achievement or his dramatic 2002 PPV knockout victory over the fully juiced up "Ferocious" Fernanado Vargas, one of my personal all time favorites, but honestly I would have to say his first fight with Julio Ceasar Chavez Sr, win by 4th round tko, in June, 1996 was Oscar's greatest win. I believe it was that particular fight and win against that Chavez, whose pro record going in to that first fight with DeLahoya was an astonishing 96-1-1, that launched Oscar into the high PPV astronomy as boxing's biggest draw throughout the late 90's, besides a primed Roy Jones Jr, and early part of the 2nd millinium.
Pea is by far the best opponent he ever beat, but the decision is too disputed to rank it as his best moment. I'd say the Vargas KO is his best moment. Tough fight, excitin fight, pulls out a late KO, all against a guy who was a pretty heated rival to him.
Olympic Gold Medal Mayorga (given the circumstances) Chavez 2 Vargas In that order His wins at the lower weights 126 through 135 for me will always be his most impressive, but they were not as high profile as his fights at 140+
This isn't THE greatest moment but one of his greatest moments was when he showed he had heart against Mosley in the first fight by going toe to toe with him. Many accused him of being gutless after his performance against Tito before that fight.
He didn't run for 5 rounds and even if he did that still leaves the other 7 rounds that Oscar won so he wins 7 rounds to 5 :hi:
