Marvin Hagler was a man obsessed. His training regiment was punishing and his hunger combined with other feelings -mostly negative. I do not believe that he was still in his prime when he faced Hearns. He has slowed down by then. prime years circa 1978-1983. Peak: Minter
From the minter fight up until the duran fight were hagler best performances. Even though 'The War' is sometimes hauled as the three greatest rounds in boxing, i think hagler was past his peak at the time. and definitely past it when he fought leonard, not that he didnt perform well when these fights happened!
Scypion fight was the absolute best of Hagler. Roldan fight showed the beginnings of a slide from the peak.
Good call, I agree. Hagler peaked before winning the title. He let Vito back in their first fight, but the draw was a bad verdict.
I'd say Hagler's peak was circa 1979-83. The Hearns fight was an example of a great fighter slightly passed his prime, pul;ling it all out of the bag again.
i thought 85 could have been earlier he was on the slide by the time of the mugabi and leonard fights
I would say in between 81 and 83. The Minter fight to the Sibson fight. I feel the draw for the title made him as Marvin put it "turn his fists into judges' Haglers 2nd fight with Vito was a great performance, even if Vito was on the slide. Beutiful knock down from Marvin whilst turning Vito.
