I'm watching a lot of fights of the guy and he seems amazing only to eventually get taken to school by barrera.
Do you think he was exposed in that fight or just onmotivated or not well trained?
It seems to me the guy had atg potential yet didnt make it.
Was he right for quiting after barrera? could he have maybe overcome the loss and have some more greta fights or was his soul ripped out that night and would it only lead to more losses.
Im unsure if he truly was capable of becoming a atg and doing amazing stuff or just a hypejob that got exposed.

He became lazy, was never motivated to train and be the best especially in the last few years of his career and it finally showed when he fought a prime ATG in Barrera and was taken apart. Back in like 95 he was a very special fighter but after he left Brendan Ingle it all went down hill, also he never officially quit he did fight once more against some unknown euro bum but was on the decline and it told in his peformance. I think he just lost the passion after a while.

Its really a shame, you would think that the barrera defeat would make him more hungry again to comeback on top, yet it did the opposite.

It should be noted he was getting death threats after Sep11th with him being a public face of Islam. Hamed supposedly had 100million in the bank after the MAB loss. The endorsements and HBO contracts were drying up and he had a comfortable happy family life. A waste talent wise none the less

He was capable of receiving a full nelson face in the corner!

He had great talent and so never really bothered to learn how to box. When he faced a boxer with as much or more talent than him, but actually had solid boxing base, he got destroyed, and at his age, it was way too late in his career to start to learn... You can't teach an old ****** new tricks.

That's what was so horrible in watching Hamed, he had horrible boxing skills, but was able to compensate with talent; speed, agility, reflexes... But you could tell that a good boxer with solid base could pick him apart, yet, he just kept facing B level opponents... Was great when Barrera schooled him!

Pascal is somewhat similar, looks great, sometimes, against C level fighters, but when against a solid boxer, his **** just doesn't work too well. Off balance, tries throws bombs jumping in, porous defense... But, he's quite fast, so can get away with it. Hamed was the same, did a ton of stuff wrong on the ring, didn't even have a solid boxing base, but, he was very talented and could get away with it against poor opposition. That **** doesn't work vs top level fighters though, and the 1st serious guy he fought destroyed him.

Are you watching random clips on the internet? Or are you watching his fights in full? Preferably in chronological order?

He didn't look amazing throughout and then all of a sudden be exposed by Barrera, like so many people on here think. To me, his decline (or a halt to his development) was first visble 7/8 or so fights before he met Barrera. During that period he was becoming lazy, bored, lost respect for Ingle, was too much in love with his power, and paid little attention to tweaking his style while his physical gifts - mainly reflexes - were declining. He literally thought all he had to do win fights, was turn up. During those years he was a nightmare of a perosn to deal with, and it was only a matter of time before a JMM, Barrera, Morales or Pacquiao got hold of him.

As for what he could have been, I guess we'll never know. His desire and motivation, didn't match his incredible talent and skill.

Good post, he actually matches up better stylistically with Morales, Pac and JMM for money, none fight anything like as defensive as MAB did that night

    :rofl :rofl :rofl

He was capable of becoming the face of Gays in Boxing and a bridge between Muslims and Gays in the UK and other parts of the world.

JMM, Barrera, Morales and Pac all beat him IMO. Very good fighter but those 4 were all-time greats with numerous big wins. Shoot I'd give Gamboa or JuanMA a good chance of beating him

Dont know if he was that good, mainly because all 4 of those guys have lived and breathed the sport whereas Hamed was definitely less passionate about it. In match ups with them he had a decent chance against all even Barrera if he took it seriously.
His power was awesome even in a fight he clearly lost he only tagged Barrera 2 or 3 times but still managed to break his nose.
After all the what ifs, he was still great for the sport whether generated by hate or admiration. A very naturally gifted athlete who should have put all his trust in Ingle instead of his agent.
