Two wars with Fenech. When he beat him, it was considered a phenomenal upset. A lot can change in a year or two the longer you've been in the game. It can change with one fight, really.
Mosley more then likely didn't start using peds until he moved up to 147 and 154 when he discovered that he speed and power did not have the same effect as it did at 135.
Umm..the Leija win over Nelson was ages (the one that was even remotely relevant) was ages before Leija fought Mosley.
According to Nazim at 147, Shane could KO a mule. At 135, he would've laid waste to any and all smaller ungulates.
Although he hadnt fought anyone of note at 135, I think people were in awe by his speed and power and assumed that he was a killer.. It's more like he could have, would have cuz he showed brilliance and potential.. Dude was a big lightweight and because he was more fundamentally sound in those days, I think he would have done great with just about anybody.. I wish he would have fough Tszyu even though he had a bigger fish to fry in Delahoya.
8 IBF title defenses and while the level of opposition may not have been itself the stuff of legend his performances relative to it (and it was a no less than solid level of opposition) is what earns high marks. Brown - was unlucky to never hold a title, and came pretty close a few times. Johnson - solid contender of the day. Leija - former champ, fought several Hall of Fame inductees and comported himself well going 2-5-1 against them. Morales - unbeaten, 26-0 (21) at the time. Real power. Ruiz - padded record and KO rate. One of the least impressive of Mosley's defenses - but Mosley dominated every minute and knocked him unconscious as he ought to have. Molina - longtime former champ in his fiftieth bout and only previously stopped once. Went 12 with prime ODLH. Ceballos - decent fighter, had recently kayoed Shane's previous challenger...obliterated. Gomez - another underwhelming opponent like Ruiz, whom Mosley dominated and stopped. Holiday - unbeaten champion with 6 successful defenses. During that reign he popped the cherries of Rocky Martinez and Ivan Robinson, and pummeled Fenech into retirement. All eight defenses were knockouts. Lightweight Shane was a beast.
