Wonder what difference it would make, if any, if the Hearns V Sugar 2 fight takes place at middle weight. Maybe it suited Tommy more at Super middle. He did seem to have bad luck tho at Middle.
Ray couldn`t have beaten Tommy at 160 using the tactics he used v Hagler, Hearns would always have out-jabbed Ray despite some poor displays at middle.
it's a shame that happened to him. Other than his attitude and insane comments "Leonard was the closest thing to Willie Pep, but with the added killer instinct Pep was lacking", what did he do?
Hearns was TERRIBLE! We started seeing the cracks as he moved into light heavy. He showed more cracks in the Roldan fight and was probably one shot from being knocked out All it took for it to happen came in his first defense as he was caught with a right hand and from that point on, he was a vulnerable fighter. He came within a hair of being beat by Kinchen when who should come calling but SRL "Hey, you want to fight?" After every salvo Tommy launched, it looked as if became too tired to move his hands as Leonard bounced one shot after another off his head. 1988 - 1989 was the worst I've ever seen him. Whatever happened to Tommy's claim of "after I win four titles, I will retire"?
