Terry Norris KO 1 John Mugabi Yes, "The Beast" was past it, but, still, nobody thought it would be that easy. Norris had been pole axed by Julian Jackson the year before, so many, including me, thought he would play it safe and stay away from Mugabi. Instead, he jumped on Mugabi and took him out before he could land anything powerful on him. It was very impressive.
Although he completely dominated Sugar Ray Leonard, I have a favorite in his bout with Donald Curry. I really think this was Norris at his best. He was regarded as a bit chinny after Jackson and again later in his career. But this was him at his peak because it wasn't one-way traffic. Curry landed some absolute bombs on Norris and he handled them. A very underrated fight.
I liked his fight against Vincent Pettway. At the time Pettway was coming off a big win over Simon Brown and Norris just dominated him.
He boxed Masterclass against Simon Brown in fight #2 after being DESTROYED in the first fight. He destroyed Meldrick Taylor, now Meldrick was the smaller man but he still had plenty left at that point and Norris took him apart and early. Someone mentioned the Curry fight which is another good mention, Curry had seen better days at that point but still came to fight and pushed Norris. And then of course the beating he put on Leonard, yes Ray was at the end but Terry beat him into retirement.... Of course Ray would try again years later against Camacho...... (gross)
This thread just reiterates that his biggest names, except Jackson (who destroyed him) were past their best when he faced them. LOL.
Terry by definition is a Texan. Sad his physical condition today. I nominated him for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame since he was recognized as WBC/IBF Super WW World Champ, and was involved in 21 legit title fights (losing a couple). Unfortunately, to date the TSHF would rather bring NFL owners into the TSHF, instead of athletes who gave it their all for the fans....in a very dangerous sport.
Easily Brown II, he came back and put a master class, it wasn't only his best performance, but it was on the level of Ali vs Liston, Whitaker vs Ramirez, Nunn vs Tate or Rigo vs Donaire, he looked like a million dollar.
Norris was handling Jackson, putting it on him in round one and round 2 until he got caught. As good as Norris was I don't think he would ever beat that version of Jackson because he's going to get hit at some point and knocked out, he never had the best chin. He was hurt and dropped by guys like Troy Waters. So my answer is no he'd never beat Julian I don't believe. If he could take or avoid your punches Norris was a nightmare. But Julian usually would catch you at some point.
I don't think so. Jackson weakness wasn't his chin as many people wants to believe, it was that he didn't knew how to handle pressure, Norris didn't had the chin to pressure Jackson without being caught like McCallum or McClellan, ask Herok Graham. So I think that Norris is just the better boxer, but Jackson it's an awful match up for him.
