I'll tie it down even more and say from 1966 to 1977.

"Packey McFarland has a good chance to outpoint Thomas Hearns and Ray Leonard."

Is this the kind of stuff you have to say here... if you want to be recognized as a real historian/expert?

he's just talking out of his ass. the guy was great for his era but he doesn't outpoint any top fighter from the 80s. i think he's just saying that because the guy came from an earlier era.

    I'll extend that a bit 1966 to 1982

This is not even close: early 90's! Just going off the top of my head here:

Heavies: Tyson, Holyfield, Moorer, Morrison, Foreman, Holmes, Lewis, Bowe, Cooper, Ruddock, Seldon, Holmes, and so on

    Cruisers: Norris, Czyz

    Light Heavies: Hill, Williams, Hearns,

Middles/ Super Middles: Jones, McClellan, Toney, Nunn, Benn, Eubanks, Dewitt, Pazienza, McCallum

    Junior Middles: Norris, Jackson, Brown,

Welters: Trinidad, Whitaker, Taylor, Starling, Davis, Blocker, McGirt, Carr

Junior Welters: Chavez, Camacho, Haugen, Bramble, Mayweather, Padilla

Junior Light / Light: Nelson, Finnich, Ruelas brothers, De La Hoya, Hernandez, Paez

    Flies: Carbajal, Gonzales

That's over 50 great fighters in one era, and I know I forgot a lot!

The underlined are not great fighters imo, that reduces your list by more than half.
There are as many great fighters listed in the top ten ratings for 1924 as you have given for the entire 90's decade.

Agreed, except for McClellan, Benn, and Nunn.
