Real close both Winky and JMM looked bad at the weights imo and both were fighting guys who had the edge over them stylistically. I'd lean towards B Hops win being better because Mayweather while coming off a lay off is still prime while Hopkins was/is in the twilight of his career.
I'd say Floyd's win over JMM because of how dominant it was and PBF coming off a long layoff. Although JMM at 147 is rediculously undersized, Winky at 170 is pretty small too.
Mayweather over Marquez. Winky was already clearly on the slide and inactive, as well as being a stone over his best weight. Marquez was also a stone overweight, but was coming off KO wins of Juan Diaz and Casamayor (the first man to stop either) and a clear win for me in the 2nd Pac fight.
But what of Hops' advancing age? Does he not get extra kudos for that? This is not a disguised hate thread either, there are parallells in the opponents here. Which one was really better? And why? I'm undecided
Hopkins win over Winky. Winky wasn't as much above his best weight as Marquez. Marquez at lw was already pushing his limit but 2 weightclasses above? Winky on the other hand fought the mw champ to a draw - I thought he won - and fought Hopkins at a catchweight. So, Winky wasn't as far above his best weight as Marquez. The talk of Winky beeing on a slide came up after he was beaten. Hindsight bullocks imo. Add to that Hopkins' age and that nobody figured out how to beat Winky for a very long time but Marquez on the other hand was beaten by Pac when he was at a weight he was better at not long before his loss to Floyd and you have your one and only answer to this question.
Damn that's a hard one, I'll have to think about it a bit more. At first thought I'd go with Hopkin's win but I'm not certain.
This. :deal I have to disagree there myself. Personally, I thought he was already past his peak when he scored his big wins over Tito and Mosley. However, the Marquez that fought Mayweather was just as much, if not moreso past his own peak. Exactly. In the end, Hopkins was taking on a tougher task against a more threatening opponent while under more difficult circumstances himself.
Hopkins fought the tougher opponent (at the weight), but Floyd looked more impressive. Both fights should not have happened.
JMM is the most overrated fighter in boxing now. Floyd outclassed him. JMM if he is an ATG or even HOF should have done more. I think the Hopkins over Winky was more impressive but in both cases there was cherrypicking.
Floyd dominated every second of the JMM match. Hopkins looked his boring self against Wright, and didn't really do much besides his usual holding and headbutting, until Winky started tiring as early as the 6th round. You can say Winky held the MW champion to a draw, but JMM basically held the p4p monster in Pacquiao to a draw, twice. That was also at lower weight, but Pac is a lot better than Taylor, at their respective weights.
Size - both impressive 2 weights under the fight weight and both dominate 3divisions below the fight weight, Hopkins made the catchweight though, Mayweather didnt Significance - Winky beat the man who beat Hops for most fans. JMM beat the P4P no1 for most fans at a lower weight. The Winky fight was more significant Prime - Both Winky/JMM a bit past their prime but still winning, FMJ is near to his prime, Hopkins had clearly lost a step Dominance- FMJ clearly dominated, Hops fight was closish
