Did he have a choice Oscar was HUGE at the lower weights. Sugar Shane used to do the same thing. I remember his fight with Ceballos he weighed in at 35 the day before but by the time he stepped into the ring he had rehydrated back to a whopping 159lbs. Spaddy also used to do this. Its my opinion that years of doing this is definitly harmful to some fighters. Looks like it hit Oscar earlier than most. Fairly though odd considering his style which has changed more times in his career than a whores draws...
Oscar has tried to adapt and change his style way to much. Over the years he has had a ton of trainers and tried so many diffrent things that just didnt compliment him in the ring. When he first turned pro he was nice to watch as he had an aggresive come forward style, would keep his chin down, used deft footwork and really fought like he wanted it. As his matured and changed his style over the years i just havent found him exciting to watch.
In my original post I said "early in his career" I was refering to when he was a come forward fighter and even when he was a boxer puncher. He became less fun to watch when he tried to become a slickster but even then he turned out a fun fight here and there.
Taking a moral stance on this doesnt interest me. If Shane was found guilty of taking performance enhancing drugs then he must pay the price simple. Many fighters like james Toney RJJ Vargas Richard Hall Morrison Holyfield and apparently even Tyson have been accused or found guilty at some stages of there careers of taking peformance enhancers. This doesnt detract for a minute my interest in there careers or there performance in the ring as fighters. Although morally wrong its rife in sports. Time to deal with it.
It has an effect on his popularity, which was the question, ******. His face gets him attention from women, I can see how this would be an alien concept to you.
I just want to tell you people who are trying to trash sugar shane, he passed a lie detector test administered by the feds, when he told them he did not know he was taking PEDs.
Scurla, Papa when you go to the Olympics representing the USA and win a gold medal, you pretty much have your future setup for you right then and there bro. Oscar had an amazing amateur career and he was a force to be reckon with when he came in the pros. At the beginning of his carrer I was a huge fan and loved to watch him fight. IMHO the reason he became so popular is because of his good looks and charisma plus it doesnt hurt that now days he can sell a freezer to an eskimo with all his bs talk as demostrated in the latest 24/7. He has a HUGE following in thise country from the Latino comunnity specially the dimes bro. I do see your point though. However I still think Oscar has always been good for boxing because of the attention he brings and the amount of money he generates. Just think how much money he made this last saturday or how much money he helped Vegas make this last weekend also, c'mon bro he is money machine and for that he gets my props. Now as far as his skills and resume what can I say that hasnt already been said. IHMO he will be a future Hall Of Famer and ATG....
