Bonnar/Griffin was the tits.. A crude slugfest, yes, but an excellent showing of heart and respect between two Mixed Martial Artist. I view it in the same light as Gatti v Ward.. Anyone who doesn't appreciate performances like these is impaired in some form or another.. Prideboyitis is what I call it.
I liked MMA a bit but one day, out of nowhere I just felt like watching some Wanderlei Silva fights after hearing about his aggressiveness and style. What a great fighter he was to watch. Now I'm watching MMA more.
I was always a bit of a fan, but leading up to Fedor/Barnett in Affliction (which, of course, never actually happened), I decided to watch every Fedor fight in chronological order. That is what made me a hardcore fan.
I often watch this card.. Loved how they broke down the 5 disciplines, and those brutal elbows from the mount in Smith/Morris. Finally got to see this fight for the first time in full.. Thanks youtube!! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfad6hWnHD0"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfad6hWnHD0[/ame]
Then Weit himself was knocked out in even worse fashion... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhpSaTAzlzI[/ame]
I've never seen that fight in full before either. I can't believe he went for a takedown at one point. That was a good scrap for UFC 2.
I enjoyed that.. Loved his post fight interview after UFC 6 "That's what it takes to win this thing (Grappling) because if you can't fight.. On the ground you can't FIGHT"
I never thought about it before but Pat Smith was a K1 level fighter fighting in the first UFC's. He competed in all of the early K1 events only losing to the best like Aerts or Hug or Stan the Man.
