The first match I fully remember was Oscar vs Vargas which was awesome. I have memories of staying up to watch Bones Adams on Friday Night Fights with my dad as a kid but other than one of them ending in a draw I don't remember ANYTHING about the fights so doesn't really count.

It's probably the thrilla in manilla in 75 on a black and white tv, was just 5 or 6 but I recall being fully mesmerized. Ali not getting off his stool at the end was my main memory.

I might have watched other fights but the one that stands out to me was Bowe vs Holyfield 2 back in 93. I was 10 and it was a lot of fun watching that with my dad. He was going for Holyfield so I jumped on the bandwagon and became a fan of The Real Deal that night.

Marvin Hagler V Sugar Ray Leonard, with my Dad when I was 9 years old.

My Dad was a massive Leonard fan and was waxing lyrical about his skills but I called it like I saw it - Hagler was robbed! To my untrained eyes it just looked like Leonard was running away for 12 rounds.

Though I didn't watch it I remember my Mum screaming at our little black and white TV when Barry McGuigan won his World Title in 1985. She sounded like she was being electrocuted.

I feel lucky to have grown up in the 1980s, when amazing fights featuring some of the all time greats were regularly on terrestrial TV. It also helped having parents who loved the sport and didn't mind their boy watching it from a young age.

She had reason to scream. McGuigan was fighting Pedrosa, he'd been Featherweight Champ for 9 years straight & no one could get him out of South America....Eastwood managed it & Barrys great Bodyshots ended the day him a World Champ! Good fight, Your Mums got class!!

    Tyson v Bruno 1.

I was 5/6 at the time, my dad had taped it and I rewatched it.

Even at an early age I was in awe of what Tyson was, Bruno was a hero in my house and for him to be wiped away like that....
