saying that everyone expected an early stoppage over a guy that stopped Hasegawa a couple months ago is funny.

    Yawn.

I never said the majority expected an early stoppage, only they did expect Donaire to stop Montiel at some point. Whether it is in two rounds or nine rounds, I fail to see how the win has grown to be so impressive that Donaire is now being favored over established Featherweights.

I look & appear cultured in a Tuxedo when attending a charity fuction but once i've downed 10+ pints rapid then the real scum in me sallies forth:yep:D

I'll be attending the BWAA banquet at the MGM the night before the Pac/Mosley fight & there'll be an "Open Bar" for the 1st hour or so real early so i'll be making a right shameless pig of myself & as the old saying goes......

"YOU'LL ALWAYS FIND THAT SCUM RISES TOO THE TOP:lol:

He demolished the lineal/ring champ with a single punch. That is astonishing, or it should be, I guess. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking that guys can beat other guys a single real weight class over them, especially guys who have been dropped and staggered by lesser punchers. I guess. It sounds like sensationalism, but there have been Bantams favored over Feathers many times.

Super Bantamweight isn't a "real" weight class by your reckoning? Donaire, now having knocked out a fighter who spent the majority of his career as a Super Flyweight, is now being favored to move up two divisions and defeat the likes of Juan Manuel Lopez and Yurkois Gamboa? It just seems overzealous. I think it's ambitious. Montiel was a good fighter who spent the majority of his career at 115lbs. Not known for being consistently outstanding, not known for fighting a terribly impressive level of competition throughout his career.

Let's see how Donaire handles the opposition at 122lbs before we start thinking about the likes of Lopez and Gamboa. Him and Nishioka could be interesting.

Junior weight divisions can suck my dick. Anyway, it's obvious to me that Donaire is cutting a LOT. He rehydrated to 126 in the ring. In the auld days, we would have made him fight at the FW limit. JML and Gamboa aren't THAT hot **** either.. I like them but they haven't looked that great either. Lopez had his hands full with pocket Marquez and Gamboa looks like he's in trouble every time a hard punch hits him.... I think Donaire has a style advantage over both, great speed and power, and is a calm, collected personnage. He can do it. Maybe. I'm just saying it's not that ludicrous.

Either way he completely ****ed up the #1 guy in his division twice in Darchinyan and Montiel, when he is motivated and interested he annihilates people. Give the man the credit he deserves.

I figure Lopez would have a power advantage over Donaire, whereas Gamboa possesses comparable hand speed. Two fighters you'd never entertain the idea of putting in the same ring as a Fernando Montiel, as both would devastate him inside the first 3 minutes. I would like to see how effective Donaire is at 122lbs against bigger, stronger fighters before we talk about Featherweight. I don't think knocking out Fernando Montiel is a good measuring stick for how he'd fair against the top guys at 126lbs.

Otherwise, Donaire is getting the respect he deserves...and then some.

RJJ vs Danny Green - I remember feeling horrible after seeing this fight. I don't want to be too harsh to Danny Green, but really, if he'd been fighting a prime RJJ, he never would have landed that punch. Even worse was the TV commentary (I'm Australian so the commentary I'm talking about was the Australian commentary) going on and on about how Green had just demolished a legend. Demolished a legend? Yeah, if you think Holmes beating an old Ali made him a legend.
