What was the point of Pov-Price on this card if not Pov as AJ's next opponent?

Just wondering, isn't Povetkin Joshua's WBA mandatory next in line?

I would not mind Wilder-Whyte and AJ-Povetkin next. Pov is a much more offensive boxer than Parker. In March, we saw all of the HW top 5 in action (AJ, Wilder, Povetkin, Ortiz, Parker, in this order), and I am confident Povetkin is still better than Parker or Ortiz, albeit declining. AJ-Povetkin would be a legitimate fight and Povetkin would be willing to take more risks than Parker.

Povetkin is too small & off drugs now.

Whyte will fight Pov asking as aj gets wilder. If wilder can't be made then aj Pov. Having him on the card had a few benefits.
Introduction him to casual fans and a heavy ko of Price will do wonders for that
Back up if Parker had failed to make fight
    Let's Whyte call him out.

Makes sense - Povetkin will beat Whyte fair and square though.

But that also buys aj a bit more time before fighting Pov as Pov will be tied up with Whyte and not demanding his earned shot at AJ. Also if Pov beats Whyte then hearn can sell the fight more as Pov will be coming off a price win and a Whyte win
