I think you meant Toney vs Jirov.

That is reasonable moving up in weight is nothing new more than likely both would have moved up until they quit being competitive...that is what happened here they were still competitive at heavyweight to a certain extent.....what stopped them?

So, watching someone gaining weight with anabolic steroids can help us guage their "natural weight" ???

    In my opinion .....
Toney didn't look visibly drained or unnaturally tight at 160 pounds at all.
No doubt it was a struggle for him to stay at 160, as it is for many middleweight boxers, but his last fight at 160 he had just turned 24, and he moved up, which does seem "natural" or normal.

He could have stayed at 168 for the vast majority of the rest of his years, I believe. And been effective there.
But Roy Jones Jr. was just much too good for him.

No. But how do you explain toneys ability to throw as many punches at a much higher weight than he started vs holyfields diminished workrate once he put on a certain amount of muscle? It suggests to me that toneys frame must have been bigger than we thought, otherwise he should have shown signs of being too bulky at HW by gassing out and losing his upper body flexibility.

Once holyfield had gained a certain amount of muscle over his "natural weight" the drawbacks were obvious. Same with Tyson, Joshua and others.
The fact that toney doesnt fit the profile despite the fact that he carried alot more muscle later(seriously look up toney vs rydell booker on google images) suggests that maybe the muscle mass he carried at CW and HW might not have been that absurd for his frame and maybe he was drained at 157

Toney's frame wasn't as big as Holyfield's, so clearly "size of frame" and "loss of workrate with increased muscle" are not related.

Toney conserved a lot of energy when he fought. That may explain what you're looking at there.

I agree that Toney should have started at 175 pounds. His career would have been better off. In fact, Toney was a good light heavy, he just got robbed twice against Griffin.Remember Toney had also some close calls at middlweight.

If Toney had the dedication, discipline and a good strength coach, I think he could carry 200-210 lbs in shape no problem...

Usually a boxer fights below his "walking around" weight.

I'd say there best fighting weights would be:

    Toney: 168 -175 lbs
    Moorer: 190 lbs.

Toney was fat as hell at HW

Moorer looked too heavy at HW but not as bad as Toney

Moorer probably skipped the CW division for $$ reasons.

I think he'd have been fit in that division

Toney didn't look dried out at Light Heavyweight.

I think with the dedication of numerous top boxers (i.e. Hagler) Toney could have fought at 168 for years and never had to go over 175 if he so chose. Moorer need not have gone over 190. Of course Moorer was able to compete well at heavyweight and that's where the dollars are so good on him for having a crack. I think Toney's crusades were from lack of discipline as much as anything at times. Could be wrong.

Easier to eat everything in sight and take loads of steroids than train to make weight.
Besides, Toney has received more praise for being a heavyweight contender than he could have got staying at 168 and 175 where he never would have escaped RJJ's shadow.
