What was up with the condition of the ring? it looked very bounce and the commentators said it was unsafe working conditions, and that it was slanted and uphill / downhill near the middle of the ring. I think it's embarrassing to the sport of boxing to have such a sketchy ring for a fight like this. this is why I still prefer HBO to showtime. I don't think HBO would ever let a ring be built so faulty as we saw tonight. Showtime's coverage of boxing is really **** poor for the most part. Commentary was awful and to have a ring like that that could have collasped at any time is freaking pathetic if you ask me.
HBO and Showtime have no control over the ring. The promoter provides the ring and the commission is supposed to inspect it for safety. The networks can choose not to televise (and waste their investment) but they don't have a say-so on it. I have seen several, several HBO fights where the ring was slippery because of how some advertisement was painted on the canvas. The network can't demand a new one.
Great points about the slippery rings on some HBO fights. There's no doubt about it that many fighters have slipped on logos and I think it's ridiculous how it keeps happening. logos are on the ring in both HBO and Showtime. But with all the concern for fighter's safety, it is amazing to me that the ring was in such bad shape tonight. it was clearly an embarrassment. Boxing in general needs to find a solution to fighters routinely slipping on in-ring logos. Advertise your ass off, but I don't see why there has to be logos in the actual ring. they provide for a lot of problems when it comes to footing. That said, I don't think we ever seen the actual structure of the ring in as bad shape as we saw tonight. The commentators were talking like it could collapse at any time, and after the fight was over, they were asking people to stay out of the ring, especially near the center. GBP should be ashamed of putting on a show with a ring in such bad shape like that.
yeah, i noticed that when Mitchell was bouncing about. thought it was going to collapse at one stage.
