and why? Mine was 2006. For the following reasons. 1. Pac puts himself back on top of the lighter weights scene by being the first to KO Morales. 2. Heavyweights, although weak had a lot of parity.(also Brewster/Lyakovich was on free showtime) 3. Media pressure on Floyd to fight Margarito or Hatton. Floyd was doing a lot of interviews at this time, mainly with Brian Kenny. Sort of remiscent of Cossell/Ali interviews. 4. ESPN FNF had a lot of bar friendly fights. 5. British boxing exposure in the U.S was getting full steam. 6. Dela Hoya's popularity had risen back to its pre-2000 ratings 7. Arce, Darchinyan, Izzy, Calderon, Rafa were tearing it up at the smaller weights. 8. Hopkins shocks the world by beating Tarver. 9. Stephen A. Smith show was on ESPN and talked a lot about boxing. 10. And boxing shows on youtube were just beginning to kickoff.
2001 basically because I was watching a lot more boxing, especially FNF. It seemed like every Friday there were some great battles including the Ward-Burton fight.
Not to get off track but the other week at the bar, some ******* wanted to change the T.V. from FNF to some shitty b-ball game. Didn't happen.
2007 had a lot of big fights, some which were very entertaining. 2001 had some big fights too, and was the year of the upset. A lot of the important fights that year resulted in upsets (Rahman-Lewis 1, Tszyu-Judah, Barrera-Hamed, Hopkins-Trinidad)
I liked 2000 a lot too. From the mid 90s to 1999, I hadn't been following boxing as carefully as I did in the early 90s. During 2000, I started following it carefully again, and it closed with that amazing fight in Trinidad-Vargas. That was also I believe the last PPV fight that I could pirate. I don't think any of the PPV fights that I've actually paid for were better than the free Trinidad-Vargas.
