Yesterday I got back in the gym after a hand injury, my walking around weight is about 180 after 2 months of no gym, im 17 years old and im 6'1 , what weight class is better for me? Thanks !
He is a light-heavyweight, assuming of course that he is amateur. With regards to where he should be, without seeing him perform in training or knowing anything specific, any advice offered is absolutely ridiculous. You should discuss this with your coach, that's what he/she is there for. Good luck
160 But, yeah, at 17, you'll be fighting near your current walk around at 175 in about three years. In reality, it is impossible to say. That is just what I would say based on what I know.
135. Just think about how much of a height advantage you'll have.. Make the sacrifices, don't worry about health nutrition or anything, just don't eat. You can be on deaths door and unable to train but you won't need to when you have that sort of height advantage, as long as you can walk to the ring you've won. Seriously though bud, it's impossible to say. If you knew what sort of body fat percentage you are at it would be a bit easier but at your age you could grow next week. Eat well and train hard, your body will be at the weight it should be at then. Whatever weight class you fall in, there you go. If you're only a few pounds above another weight class at your fittest and leanest then start thinking about your weight, there's a few things you can do to get rid of the last couple of pounds for a weigh in. And if that takes it out of you, don't be afraid to fight in a higher weight division, you could even put on some extra muscle in the off season if you make that decision... Guys like Korobov and Andre Ward who were top amateurs fought at weights well below the limit.
Like lefty said, it is impossible for anyone of us to say since we don't train along side you. Keep in mind though that you are young and you should be able to lose weight easier if you need to. Also, if you were to fight at 168, notice that you would be fighting guys who's original walking weight could be well above yours. After months of gym time, you should be comfortable walking around 165-170, so for a fight you would come down even more and then hydrate back. Really hard to say. You should talk to your trainer.
These kinds of posts just scream out, "I don't know the first thing about boxing". These remind of all the other ones: Am I too short/tall? Are boxing gloves inflated? Is running nesessary? Seriously?
As I've learned in my short time here, questions like this don't go well with people here. There is no "correct" fighting weight...fight wherever you fight best at.
