Get yourself fight fit and let your coaches decide. When I started training I was up at 160, and had the naive idea that I'd lose fat gain muscle and probably be fighting at 160, but I make the weight now at 140. If I had the financial backing and nutritional expertise that top pro's have I'd probably make 135 easily enough at 5'11.

My point is that you shouldn't aim for a weight, just train hard and let your weightclass find you.

I second that question. Pro's don't make weight due to financial backing or due to special nutrional expertise. The reason must fighters who turn pro fight a division under what they did as an amature is because they can dehydrate a few pounds off and rehydrate for next day

Obviously having someone who is there to work out your meals and exactly how to cut the weight and put it back on helps. But if it was same day weigh ins that wouldnt amount to much.

Well, I hold down a 40hr a week job, and I don't have the spare time or money to eat the way dedicated pros do, or train at as high an intensity. I'm not saying it's a massive factor, but if I had the opportunity to do an 8 week training camp with somebody like Alex Ariza cooking my meals, I reckon I would feel as strong at 135 as I do at 140.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that most pros have those advantages, I'm talking in extremes. But in the ams, like you say, same day weigh-ins, competitions in close proximity, you simply can't make the extreme cuts pros do.

I agree that it can HELP you get on the right path, but it's not necessary. You just have to watch what you eat and what you DON'T eat, and work your ass off in the gym. There's really no secrets, you just have to be dedicated, and make it a lifestyle. As much as some people don't like to, if you really want to live up to your full potential, you basically have to center your life around it. That's just my opinion.

It isn't just height that determines weight. We would need to know your reach, shoulder width, etc. I am a bit 6'2" guy. I have a 78" reach and I weight 219 lbs. If my reach was shorter and my shoulders narrower, I might be a lot slower and feel heavier. If you have a small frame, you should probably weigh less. But, who really knows? You might fight well at both light or heavy or maybe you should be light or maybe heavy? I have no idea.
