My 8 year old son has been going to the local boxing club since the turn of the year and I am looking to buy him some gloves. From what I have read an 8-10 year old needs 8 Ounce gloves. Is this correct?

8 ounce gloves sounds good enough, but consider buying him some 12 ounce gloves as well for when he hits the punching bag. 8 ouncers could hurt his hands when trying to throw power punches at the bag, but 12 ounce ones will offer enough protection.

Hope your son enjoys the experience :thumbsup

I disagree, I say 8oz for bagwork will be fine, any heavier will kill his technique, 12 oz maybe for sparring, but the gym can probably supply those.

How much does he weigh? I train a skinny 45lb 8 year old and a 9 year old that has got to be pushing 150 lol. 8 or 10oz should be fine whatever he weighs, unless he's a tiny little thing.

Make sure his hands are wrapped real good especially the wrists, and get him some gloves with velcro, not just the elastic wrists like cheap Everlasts. Kids have small weak joints and sometimes slamming their fists into a hard bag will hurt so they need support for the wrist to avoid injury.
