In weight making terms Bob Satterfield could compete from super middleweight to heavyweight.

If you managed this exciting, fan pleasing, but beatable fighter today how would you plan his career?

Weightmaking these days is all about getting the fighter in with the smallest possible men at the outset of his career, and it is one area of boxing where things have unquestionably "improved" - unfortunatley. Science, and more relevant, 24hr gaps between weigh in and fight mean that a manager would be a fool to start Bob off at anything lower than 160, I have no idea if he could meet 154 or not, but it's possible.

    Then, see.

    OK.

Lets say you manage to get him down to 160 and he kills a few fringe contenders.

    Then what?

Well that depends. Any master boxers holding titles? Any all time great pressure fighters waiting in the wings with belts? If so move him up to 168 for his title shot. Vulnerable belt holders at 160? Wheel those guys on first. Bob could beat the right kind of guy all the way up to Cruiser, I think, and lose to the wrong kind of guy down at 160. A weight drained Toney would beat him, for example. So he would have to be matched carefully.

Right now, keep him away from guys like Calzaghe and Abraham and consider matching him with Pavlik only for a huge fee. Hopkins is still a no no, is there any way I can get a fight for him with Duddy?

I would try to get him a shot at Surm/Sylvester that would be won by him. Then I would wait for the outcome of Pavlik-Abraham - that one will happen soon - if it´s Pavlik then try to get a unification match. If he wins that would be great if he loses that wouldn´t be as bad as you could excuse him with beeing weight drained and moving up to smw. Inkin would be my target there and then stay away from Bute and Kessler but try to get the fourth belt around. After that is done move up to lhw, the old guys should be retired by then, so this division could be dominated and unified with Dawson beein the only threat. Is that done I would move him up to cw to set up a fight between the undisputed champions at lhw and cw. There he would meet a dominant champ in Alexeev - at the moment possibly the best talent in all divisions including guys like Gamboa - and get horribly beaten. Drop down again to lhw to defend his belts, losing his title to Dawson after he get´s stripped take up another belt and defend it against bums until retirement.

Would be quite a legacy. Belt holder or perhaps even unified undisputed champ at mw, beltholdet at mw, undisputed and belt holder at lhw and a great fight against the possibly greatest cw ever.

Get him down to middleweight if possible, but keep him away from Abraham. That would not be a winable fight. Otherwise, 168 should be doable.

Er, would a 200 pound Satterfield really be in his interest? That's around where he'd be if he was a modern day Cruiser.

    Agreed,

With Satterfield's skill, power and speed he'd be a very good middle or Super middle.
