Right now i only do benchpress i just use it at 20kg and don't do it often probably once a week, i also do shrugs as i was told it will build traps to help take a punch, are these the right things to do and if not what should i stop and what should i start doing?

How often are you going to the boxing gym? If your training 3 times a week any additional weight work will be beneficial.. I wouldn't worry about bulking up and slowing down; this will only happen if you do extremely heavy weights, and evidently you're not if your benching 20kg..

Yes i'm going to the boxing gym about 3 times a week, yeah i only do 20kgs cause i wasn't sure if it would do anthing negative so i only used it light. Is there a reason to go to a higher weight or not do you think?

    no.

If he increases his max strength he can increase his explosivity.

OP I would say increase your max strength. Do squat, deadlift and bench with heavy weight 3x5.

Someone more knowledgeable will probably give there 2cents, so listen to them over me.

To answer the thread, yes, weights CAN be okay for boxing if used properly. What are your goals for a weight program? Weights may or may not be appropriate depending upon your goals.

I know that the keys is combined speed and power: so either benchpress 20-30 kg as fast as possible multiple times till your arms are dead, or do once your maximum.

No you won't have any problems at all if you lift heavier weights, especially if your spending most of your time in the boxing gym. You'll see more gains that way as opposed to lighter weight/higher reps

Pick up a pair of pink 2 lb dumbbells and do 1000 rep curls. It's the only way to get swole!
