Say the fight is made at 155. GGG v either Cotto or Canelo. Who wins?

No need to rush. Canelo is getting heavier by the minute. He looked shredded at 168, a month before the fight. I am not even convinced he will make 155 come fight night.

If I was GGG I would say 160 or no fight. He has the leverage being the mandatory. He doesn't have to agree to any gay catchwieght. And it would make Canelo or Cotto look like a B_tch if they give away the title rather than fight GGG

But if GGG wins it at 155 at defends it (and gains more kudos than not just beating a blown up light middleweight) the title becomes more valuable. It's the man that makes the title, not the title that makes the man.

Yeah but GGG's PPV buyrate prove he's not a cross over star yet. He needs a win over a big name. Casuals will either not know or care if Canelo or Cotto dropped the belt rather than fight him.

They will know about him when they tune in to watch him face Canelo or Cotto, and a win raises his profile for the next fight

They can both come in anywhere between 155-160.

GGG, but I don't want him to just win. I want him to win spectacularly and that'll happen at full-strength.

Now, now, now, is not the A-side that's killing anything but the catch weights. Which were popularized by another fighter way before Mayweather. Is funny, some of the same people that justified Pac's catchweights are condemning it for other fighters. The hypocrisy.

Well I certainly have NEVER accepted Cotto as champion. A 100% Martinez would have kicked his a$$

But if he does win, he'll get more credit than dragging them up to 160 and the fight will likely be more competitive (with Cotto anyway, I suspect Canelo would struggle to reach 155 more so than GGG)

I think Canelo is pandering at the moment. I think he will fight GGG at 160 as opposed to dumping the title, although he'd probably doesn't want to fight a full strength GGG. He's probably just trying to see what their move would be and whether they would fight him anyway- they are trying to call each others bluff it seems to me. He is far from a coward. And is it really an unfair advantage he's trying to get? You said yourself GGG KO's him, it's leveling the playing field a bit and might make for a better fight.

After all, he did demand to fight Lara and Trout, which are tricky fights. A loss to one of them guys that nobody cares about, is far more damaging than a loss to GGG at 160 (which I don't think would hurt his rep that much as he'd be a significant underdog anyway).
