Easy answer.... Dmitry Bivol whipped Canelo's ass & embarrassed him He took his soul !!!! Canelo didn't really win a round but still his judge buddies tried to make a wipe out look respectable with a ludicrous 113-115 close loss ROFL. Bivol OWNED Canelo.
Anyone that buys Canelo's ludicrous $$$ grabs cannot be a bona fide boxing fan. He's just conning you all. The only thing that can work is BOYCOTT him till he either Mans up or retires in shame. The WBC are as bad , why haven't they ordered him to fight Benavidez, his #1 contender for last few years?? Wise up guys

Like, I get it. There is a **** ton of criticizm that can be thrown at Canelo, with ease. But this is is just nonsense.
You are mad at his recent shenanigans while completely overlooking his entire career before it.
Remember when Trout beat Cotto? I do. And I remember the hordes of fans who said that no way was Canelo taking that fight(Canelo was lined up to fight Cotto). I think even Oscar said something in those lines.

Remember Lara? I do. I remember the **** Canelo got for fighting Angulo. I also remember Canelo fighting Lara.

Golovkin? Ended up fighting him 3 times(not that the 3rd one really mattered).

Daniel Jacobs! Many were adamant that Canelo would duck him.

And then Canelo went on to unify 168 while trying to find glory at 175.
Speaking of 168! Many said that Canelo would never fight Saunders and that Saunders was the worst style for him.

Fact is that Canelo fought the best at 154, 160 and 168. He also tried his hand at 175.

I wouldn’t say anything went wrong, everything after that fight has been pretty standard stuff for Canelo. Picking completely random fights but sprinkling in a good win here and there.

He gained misplaced confidence that he could beat Bivol/Beterbiev at 175, after picking up the 168 belts from decent but not special champions in Saunders, Smith and Plant

But Bivol was a bridge too far and schooled Canelo in the region of 10-2 / 11-1

After that, Canelo realised he can keep making 8 figure paydays against B-level fighters, and figured why test himself again and risk another L. So that’s why he now takes path of least resistance

I don’t know if anything went wrong, he just has no desire to test himself against a live opponent anymore.

    Hence why he’s ducking Benavidez.

I think he lost all 12 rounds. One of the moderators posted the CompuBox statistics, where according to the number of punches it can be seen that Canelo lost all 12 rounds.
The fact is that after that fight, Canelo did not knock anyone out.

Nothing really. He lost to a really good fighter in Bivol. I doubt he lost confidence in his ability. I think he is just a bit tired of the sport now and is lining his pockets. Boxing is a taxing sport to be a part of for this long mentally and physically.

I doubt he cares what the fans think at this point since I think retirement is looming?

I think he is just in cash out mode. He made his money, won his titles and is in a pick and choose moment. He doesn't have that many threats unless he goes to 175 to fight Bivol again or Beterbiev. Benavidez is the only serious threat at 168. It seems like Canelo has decided he can fight anyone else and still make money. Crawford wiped the floor with Spence and if he wipes the floor with Madrimov there might be some excitement for that fight. I wouldn't be surprised if he took Crawford before he took Benavidez.

My unpopular opinion is that I think he beats Benavidez even though it seems like he is doing whatever it takes to not fight him

He didn't fight a guy named David Benevidez. I'm a huge Canelo fan, and hes accomplished alot in the sport but it doesn't look good that potentially 2 out of his last 4 opponents as the Undisputed 168 pound champion, have never fought past 154 pounds in their entire careers. I can't defend that.:ohno

I think he was mistaken when he saw Bivol vs Richards. Bivol looked really bad in that fight. Canelo thought he could beat him easily.

Even so, after Bivol fight, nothing went wrong with Canelo's career. He keeps making lots and lots of money every fight. And if Crawford fight happens, he might be the highest paid athlete in the sports history.

I said Canelo wasn't fighting the same prior to the Bivol fight. In fact, I predicted a one sided whoopin if he fought Bivol the same way he had fought his last 3-4 opponents. Walking straight in, no jab, no head movement, just loading up on power shots. Too easy for a skilled guy like Bivol.

Alvarez and his people are pretty smart boxing guys. All of them, Canelo included, know that he is no longer what he once was.

He used to try and achieve goals and chase greatness. Now he is satisfied defending his belts and making money.

Canelo has had 65 fights and fought just short of 500 rounds. He's rightfully on the downside of his career. At some point he is going to lose but he is not going to risk what he has against someone he thinks can beat him unless the money is too big to turn down.

Were you blind to tha fact it was not just Canelo fighting GGG 3 times, Lara, Cotto GGG& others he had his 3 Vegas judges to make sure he never lost a decision regardless GGGx2. & Lara really beat him & Trout . Bivol absolutely annihilated him yet his judges scored the fight 113-115 ROFL when Canelo didn't really win a round. That was the final nail. Bivol took his soul . Canelo testes, what little ones he had, have shrunk to acorn size .
He's trying to do what Floyd did & just have circus side shows > But his misfired too LOL Gotti stopped him an amateur so Floyd no longer can claim he's undefeated either ROFL
