What went wrong with Barry McGuigan against Stevie Cruz in '86?

    I've always believed this...McGuigan 1985 and prior has a significantly better chance against Azumah...

    Today, with hindsight barry says nelson would have beaten him because azumah turned out to be the greatest fighter that africa ever turned out, but at the time he fancied his chances. considering how prime barry dealt with the top guys he met I am inclined to share his optimism during his prime window.

    He never met any like like a prime Nelson ... and that is what he would have been facing ... Nelson was much stronger, hit harder, took a better shot and had better stamina ... not a good match up for Barry who I did like quite a bit ..

    a bit of everything.. The heat was a huge factor. I remember watching it and the sun was right on them and I seem to recall Barry being all red from sunburn. and Barry wearing out a little from some wars.
