Alex Stewart may be most known for his quick dispatching by Mike Tyson, but I remember him better for the tough fights with Holyfield, Moorer, and Foreman. Everything I have mentioned is a loss. Are there victories to hang his hat on? If you had to make a case for him,can it be done over his 43 wins rather than defined by his 10 losses? Sent from my NS-P10A6100 using Tapatalk
His win list is painfully slim in terms of quality. Its arguable that his two best victories came against cruiser weights James Warring and Ezra Sellers. Jesse Ferguson and Jerry Halstead were respectable names, but both those guys had seen too much wear and tear and were getting beaten by everybody when Stewart got around to meeting them.. There isn't much else.
I remember in his bout with Foreman with Georges face dripping blood and looking like it would split open with the next punch. I was screaming for the ref to stop the fight. One of the few times I did that at a fight.
They put alex in with holy to early bad management still gave him a hard fight.that defeat knocked his confidence I think.good fighter could have gone further if looked after better.
Alex doesn't have many good wins, his legacy will be how well he fought in defeat against many of the top fighters of his Era.
Gil Clancy pointed out, correctly, that Stewart was too reluctant to let his hands go versus Foreman. His manager, I believe, had expressed doubt regarding Stewart's confidence, given his recent stoppage losses to Tyson and Moorer. Stewart turned Foreman's face into a disgusting hideous bloody mess but was just too reluctant to let his hands go. I thought the decision was fair. It was weird how Foreman's face got so busted up. Stewart landed mostly jabs and quick shots, he didn't land nearly the type of punches that Holyfield did on Foreman. You would think by looking at Foreman's face that he was just eating powerful shots all night by Stewart, but it wasn't the case. Foreman definitely took harder, flusher shots against Holyfield. Sometimes fighters will just mark up more in certain fights, for whatever reason.
