To answer my own question, because he was still scared of Shane. Understandable, he was almost knocked out in the 2nd round... So he didn't want to take ANY chance and thought he had to take every advantage he could possibly get.

Btw, he didn't have to. Once Mosley gassed out in the 3rd, he was no more a threat to Mayweather, his speed was gone, he had no more power, it would have taken a miracle for him to KO Mayweather then, Mayweather didn't have to resort to cheap shots...
