These ATG fighters, all of them had great skillset.
Did they have obvious flaws in their offensive/defensive game? What exactly?

    Gene Tunney
    Joe Louis
    Ezzard Charles
    Archie Moore
    Ray Robinson

    Few and far between.

Even where they did something wrong, there was usually a good reason.

I'd say Tunney couldn't roughhouse it in a fight as greb showed

    Joe Louis had slow footwork

And Moore didn't become a boxing expert until he was too old to utilise it fully

I will defend him on that one.

I think that Tunney was a lot more offensive than people give him credit for, and that the Dempsey fights distort our interpretation of his style.

He was a great boxer but it seems he couldn't deal with the pressure greb brought. Ali could handle great swarmers but Tunney couldn't handle greb which is why I think prime dempsey would have beat him

I think that it was Greb's speed more than anything else that did for him.

Ezzard Charles was the perfect fighter in my opinion
His only Flaw was that he was small for heavyweight and was knocked down a lot because of it

really? Ali is 2-1 with Frazier, and I wouldn't call Norton a swarmer either, exactly. Which great swarmers would you say Ali couldn't handle?

I disagree...Robinson was an attacking fighter. Given his style his defense was superb...25 year career underlines his ability to fight...and consequently that would include defense.

Louis - the slow shuffle and a weakness towards that right hand counter.

Charles - size and his willingness to slug with the big guys when his speed and boxing could have taken him to the win.

Robinson - somewhat the same as Charles with that willingness to slug when he could have boxed. I will say this in Charles and Robinsons defense that it was the product of the times. They were fighting in front a of a live gate and there was no such thing as 'win this time and look good next time' business. You were on center stage and had to produce a good show now.

Well frazier is an elite swarmer and Ali won the trilogy but I don't think Ali would have handled Tyson

Disagree 100% about Tyson beating Ali. Ali would have cracked Tyson mentally. He would have him beat before the fight.

Also, Frazier to me was better suited to fight Ali. Tyson would explode from mid range and then allow himself to get tied up, Frazier would consistently work on the inside & would bang the body for all 12/15 rounds.

I don't think Tyson would KO Ali either. Ali had a great chin, coupled with great recuperative powers.. No doubt he would get rocked by Tyson at some point, but I doubt Tyson would stop him.

Ali would win the fight down the stretch with his superior stamina and boxing IQ.

That's your opinion I do not agree. In fantasy matchups both boxers are 100% mentally and physically ready and in prime so I don't think tyson cracks mentally. A lot of Ali supporters make this claim that Ali would mentally destroy tyson before they enter the ring I don't buy into it. Anyway let's not subvert the thread into an Ali vs tyson debate.

I am of the opinion that Tyson was always weak mentally. There was just nobody around to expose it in his "prime". Ali was a master of psychological warfare. He would eat one of Tyson's best shots and then grab him and whisper in his ear some kind of taunt.

as far as the actual fight - I don't think anybody can make any kind of claim that Ali gets KO'd, when plenty of Tyson opponents went the distance with prime Tyson and even showed some success. of course I mean the likes of Tucker, Tillis, and Smith. These men were all relatively durable, clinched when Tyson got close, had good movement, a good jab, and they weren't afraid of Tyson.

I think the fight would be very competitive until Ali's ATG stamina comes into play.
