2016 has to be one of the worst years although we did get the Ward vs Kovalev fight.

2005 was also a bad year for boxing.

Hell last year was quite horrible too.

What are some of the best and the worst years for boxing in recent history?

Those were bad years for heavyweight boxing like we talked about in your other thread, but I don't know that they were bad for the rest of boxing.

    2016 Meaningful fights:
    Manny Pacquiao vs Tim Bradley
    Terence Crawford vs Viktor Postol
    Sergey Kovalev vs Jean Pascal
    Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
    Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
    Oleksandr Usyk vs Krzysztof Glowacki
Leo Santa Cruz vs Carl Frampton
    Krzysztof Glowacki vs Steve Cunningham
    Roman Gonzalez vs Carlos Cuadras

    2016 Exciting fights:
    Orlando Salido vs Francisco Vargas
Carl Frampton vs Leo Santa Cruz
    Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
    Roman Gonzalez vs Carlos Cuadras

    2005 Meaningful Fights
    Bernard Hopkins vs Jermain Taylor
Roy Jones Jr vs Antonio Tarver
    Felix Trinidad vs Ronald Wright
    Kostya Tszyu vs Ricky Hatton
    Erik Morales vs Manny Pacquiao
Jose Luis Castillo vs Diego Corrales

    2005 Exciting Fights
    Corrales vs Castillo I
Erik Morales vs Manny Pacquiao I
    Ricky Hatton vs Kostya Tszyu
    Jorge Arce vs Hussein Hussein
    Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Torres

If you go back to '98-'99 Exciting fights were very thin on the ground

    1998
Ivan Robinson vs Arturo Gatti I & II
James Page vs Jose Luis Lopez
    1999
Paulie Ayala vs Johnny Tapia I

and 2006 was a rotten year for meaningful fights
    2006
    Shane Mosley vs Fernando Vargas
    Bernard Hopkins vs Antonio Tarver
Oscar De la Hoya vs Ricardo Mayorga
    Erik Morales vs Manny Pacquiao

Who would like to see Hopkins record broken in 2017? That sounds epic.

Id like to see Roy Jones fight the winner of Isidro Prieto vs Artur Beterbiev. Whoever happens to be the winner of Prieto/ Beterbiev would have a high World ranking. If Roy Jones can defeat the winner, either Prieto or Beterbiev, Jones would be in position for a World title fight and breaking Hopkins record of being the oldest world Champion in boxing history.

I'd like James Toney to take a tune up fight against a bum with a high World ranking at CW ala a Cruiserweight version of ( Wawrzyk).

So James Toney can definitely be matched up against Murat Gassiev and have the opportunity of breaking Hopkins record as the Oldest World Champion. Yeah, Id really like to see that match Toney vs Murat Gassiev.
