You mean when Jermain beat himself by wasting about a hundred punches in 20 seconds after putting Pavlik on blast? Watch the fight guy. Jermain was up on the scorecards...a pattern that would continue for him.
Fight was competitive before Taylor got stopped yet many claimed Taylor was way ahead and got careless and would make adjustemnts and easily win a rematch. The usual spindoctoring. When that failed to happen they threw Taylor under the bus and abandoned him.
Obviously the pattern wouldn't have continued as Pavlik won an easy UD in the rematch 116-112, 117-111, 115-113
I wouldn't call it easy... Taylor II was a tough fight for Kelly. But I agree with you about the pattern not continuing.
wasn't no excuses really. Jermain Taylor hadn't looked good in a long time prior to that fight and pavlik just smashed the **** out of edison miranda.... I remember it being 50-50 as to who people thought would win. I personally thought JT was going to win because he looked bad in so many fights prior. I was wrong as hell.
JT showed absolutely no respect for Pavlik, and was winging shots at Kelly without realizing the murderous puncher Pavlik was. He played right into Pavliks strong suit and got KTFO
For months before the fight got announced people were riding the pavlik train hard (why wouldnt they? He just destroyed Miranda) and I would say 70% of the board thought he was going to do exactly what he did....Minus getting worked the first couple rounds. The trash talk wasnt insane, but the Pavlik hype was RIDICULOUS especially going into the Nard fight.
By smoked I mean the way he was K.O'd, it was nasty. Dude took like 10 unanswered blows to the face before he slump to the canvas, it was an execution.
Me too I was deeeeerunk by the time of the fight but it was a good s**** from what I remember. I think the rematch was at a 166 pound catchweight and it looked like Pavlik didn't carry his power up even 6 pounds funny how that works who knows he might have already been into the bottle by then though I have seen people hint on here it started much much earlier than people thought. How about Jack "Double Jab" Loew :roflatsch
