In reality not really better. Canelo has Cotto on his record, which is not elite really, but a very good probably hall of fame fighter. But no worse than anyone at lightweight Duran fought in name, except for being at a higher weight. It is very relevant fighting at 154 as early as 1978.. He was having trouble at lightweight or welt. in such a way he could fight that high between fights, yet he is a smaller fighter. A lot of guys look like crap. he didn't lose to Baten and Gonzales, but he lost to Laing and beat Minchillo who was a very good European fighter. Duran never had a different way to fight really, and Leonard and Hearns did. Benitez? his style was great enough to get him where he was, but he was never a puncher regardless of the Hope fight.

we are talking about elites here, but Barkley didn't shrug off Hearns either. 2 broken ribs in the second fight where he couldn't hardly walk, and the first fight brused ribs and cut up.

no not elite fighters. Are you kidding? Marcel maybe the closest,, but not elite in the stardard we use by elite.. They were not the level he fought later. He would have beaten a 154 pound Buchanan and possibly Dejesus.

Milton maybe not that much more, but a little more. More fights than 11. Marlon not much better than Davey? Come on.

Mag, 1st off Duran's resume is way better than Canelo's. The people you mentioned actually reinforce my argument. Think about this one. Duran moved up and beat his atg in Leonard, who is a better welter than Floyd. Floyd moved up and beat Canelo. Not even close. Duran fought at 154 in 78, went back down to 147 and beat a terrific fighter in Palomino and an atg in Leonard, looking fantastic in doing so. He was not "having trouble.....at welt". Stop lying again please. "A lot of guys look like crap", that's your excuse for Duran looking like crap against Laing, Batten and Gonzalez? And who is according to you, suited for 154 and 160, doesn't get to look like crap against guys like at the level of those 3.

Are you joking? Seriously? Seriously? You call Canelo ELITE because he beat 40 plus shot Shane, natural 140-147 pound Cotto at Caneloweight, scrub chinless Kirkland(all due to styles, lol), Chavez Jr, but claim the likes of Marcel, DeJesus and Buchanan don't deserve to make Duran great(excluding Leonard and Palomino). That is nonsensical. Insane. Either you have lost your mind or you hate Duran that much. If this were a court of law, you would be convicted of one or the other, lol. Thanks for the belly laughs.

Well, Canelo did beat shot 40 plus Shane, naturally smaller and passed his best Cotto, chinless Kirkland and CHAVEZ JR and that makes HIM elite, don't you know lol?

But can you imagine Marlon challenging Cuevas, Hearns, or even Leonard after 11 fights, even though the division was tougher. Not really.

Possibly, but I have a feeling that was a part of it. Who knows, I wish some of his corner was around, there are questions I have concerning that, maybe Barkely knows.
