Just imagine if ray had somehow landed the DLH fight. What a thrashing that would have been

Sums up my own thoughts perfectly. I remember thinking that even if Ray had won it would only lead to humiliation further down the line.

I barely remember the promotion. I'm guessing I switched off, as soon as I heard about it.
The last Leonard bout I paid any real attention to was the Hearns rematch. The resulting Draw from that bout confirmed to me that Leonard had become just a money-generating showcase, by then.

I don't recall thinking much about it, but I do remember thinking that it was a really poor choice of opponent. Southpaw who, if nothing else , had loads of experience and knew how to survive even against the biggest punchers. He figured to last, and that was going to be tough on Leonard's 40-year old legs.

A disaster waiting to happen. And it was, Leonard went to the well twice to many. And should've Learned from the Norris fight which was a full 6yrs and probably a 100 parties, a pound of cocaine and gallons of liquor prior to Camacho.

A waste of time … Leonard had his chance to keep fighting and prove he could still be the best but he passed on it … Not impressed

I think Ray Leonard underrated Camacho. He thought because Duran could give Camacho a good fight in those years, he could or even beat him. He took for granted that Duran stayed active and that meant a lot. And Ray's last fight was a onesided beating, which we really don't know what that took out of Ray. The Norris loss was terrible, and maybe helped by Ray being weakened at 154. I never made much out the Camacho loss just that Ray was not really a top fighter then. He was a great fighter in name, but not in skills by a long shot. This was the end of the 1990s and he had not had one win in the 1990s. and this was his 2nd fight in 8 years.

I was surprised by the outcome. I expected an easy win for Leonard.

I remember thinking he had missed the spotlight but WTH was he thinking, Camacho was faster and had been staying active and SRL had been cherry picking and he screwed up......it doesn't hurt his legacy majorly IMO Camacho was a fantastic fighter with great balance I can't say though I wasn't shocked given the natural size difference but it certainly seemed SRL took the fight he thought he could win because he never imagined he would lose

    I loved it.

Big bet and played Hector. Everyone loved Leonard so you got odds like a Tyson fight. After the fact, everyone says he's shot. But going into the bout, nobody thought much of the former jr lightweight's chances. All those USA cable fights against 2nd and 3rd tier guys he couldn't stop. And when he fought someone good, it was always a close decision for the Macho Man. And now he was up like 5 weight divisions from his prime.

Another thing I loved was Leonard did not get to this guy with his pre-fight manouvers. He was an expert at it & he was outdone by Camacho pre-fight. And we'd never seen that. And that was an advantage Leonard always had on his side. I was hoping Camacho and his arrogance---kind of like a Chris Eubank--would at best, neutralize it. But no, Hector got the best of him. So I thought that was an advantage Leonard always had and now he does not. The other guy has it. Big subtraction to have in addition to facing a southpaw, which never suited Ray quite as much.

Hector gave the guy zero respect. He kept pointing out the Norris bout & Leonard was not even going to be that good. And of course, he was right but nobody wanted to hear it or acknowledge it. Even in the ring waiting for the opening bell, Leonard did not look like his normal cocky self. But Camacho sure did.

True....but out on Texas construction job sites, you hear all kind of Splinglish...depending on what part of the State and Industry you are in. I had a Gringo working for me on a Street Project at a left turn lane...and it was hot, so he set his Construction Safety helmet behind him, forgot about it....and spray-painted the raised Turn Lane "buttons", and his SAFETY HELMET, ....... the color "Caution Yellow".....which met Texas Highway Department specifications. lol

Leonard was forty, much older. Camacho was very active going into the fight .. Most thought if Leonard had anything left he'd win by a decision .. no one was predicting a Camacho TKO win .. the hype was Ray beats Hector and then has a big money fight w Oscar .. so much for that .. Hector won and got destroyed by Oscar in a very gutsy decision loss.
