Will interest in boxing go down after the most anticipated fight in the last 40 years goes down? Will it increase? The biggest story in boxing and the reason for all the interest and large part of the ppv sales for the last 7 years have all been in anticipation of this fight. The day after the fight happens what happens? I think there are 3 possible outcomes 1 of which would be the best thing for the sport, another could be good for the sport and the third could be the worst thing for the sport. Lets look at the 3:

    1. Best case scenario, Manny Knockouts Floyd in a competitive exciting fight that ends in a big upset which makes huge headlines around the world and has everyone clamoring for a rematch.

This needs no explanation. Manny fans will be celebrating while Floyd fans will be calling for a rematch that everyone would absolutely be tuning in for.

    2. Manny destroys Floyd in a dominating performance by ko or one sided decision where floyd looks past his prime.

While Manny fans and Floyd haters would love this scenario sure itd be celebrated around the world and itd be talked about for a long time it would actually work against the sport to some degree. Many casuals would lose interest in a rematch,Floyd fans would call for him to retire instead of taking a chance on another beating so late in a hall of fame career. Floyd might not even make a rematch and just retire while manny goes on to cash out fighting C level fighters or even retiring soon after.

    3. The Worst possible scenario Floyd wins a boring one sided 12 round decision in what looks to be a past prime Manny who Floyd pot shots and holds for 12 boring rounds. This would absolutely kill boxing as a major player for some time to come and i guarantee both floyd and mannys next fights would suffer in ppv. Floyd would get no credit for beating manny whatsoever and casual fans will be done with ppv especially involving floyd as theyll feel ripped off after spending $100 on ppv for a borefest.

With no other big fights looming on the horizon for the casual fan interest in the sport could decline sharply and not recover for years to come especially with floyd and manny retiring. Sure the hardcore boxing fans have many fights to look forward too but not casual fans who bring in the bulk of ppv sales.

I want manny to win the fight but i dont want a lopsided fight either way because i see the long term consequences to the sport. Whether youre a floyd or manny fan you should be hoping for a close competitive fight that sees both fighters hit the canvas and a fair decision by the judges in the end. To hope your guys embarrasses the other is all about your own ego and shortsighted. We love this sport and should hope for whats best for it to happen on May 2nd. :bbb

Hey, boxing survived Don King, Bob Arum, PPV's etc...and it's still here.

Let's see other sports contend with the kind of challenges boxing has had to live with since time immemorial, and maybe we'll all have a newfound respect and confidence in its ability to hang in there.

It will look like May 1 2015. Same feces different color. People attribute too much importance to this "Oldies but Goldies" fight. Is there an official name for that fight anyway, like rumble in jungle? I think oldies but goldies suits perfectly.

if they both retire after the fight dont worry , we have a new pound 4 pound king fast approaching that will destroy anyone , the era of GGG is here to stay for a while yet and i guarantee he will bring more excitement than pretty boy floyd .

Floyd would get no credit for winning ? But he's fighting the fighter of the decade though ?
